Unknown to the teenage lovers, after Martha Anderson left the basement she gathered her clothing, went upstairs, then closed herself within the master bedroom she shared with her husband and fellow werefox.
Once alone and still in her werevixen fursona, she laid out across the large king sized bed they shared, grabbed her cellphone and dialed a number.
When the person on the other end answered, Martha announced without any preliminary introductions, "She passed with flying colors."
"Does that mean I can come home now?" asked her husband William.
"Unfortunately, I told the kids you were at a staff meeting and I didn't expect you home before 8."
"Was all of this even necessary?"
"No matter how old he gets or what species he chose if he ever did become a were, Eric will always be my baby. You know how inverted and socially inept he was back in Minnesota. Especially after that mess with Julie Stovall, I wanted to make sure Eric had finally found real love and was truly happy," explained Martha. "This situation between him, Spencer Lawson, and Frieda Knight is unique beyond words; and not just because Eric transformed into a white furred werepanther to be with Spencer and they all have green eyes now. After spending so much time with them yesterday, I knew the three of them were at least good friends and highly interested in each other at the moment, but I wanted to make sure that there was a true long term relationship between Eric and Spencer that would last well into the future too, and not just apparently great sex."
"I see. So are you happy now?" asked William.
"Other than missing my handsome werefox, yes," replied Martha, her furry tail wagging at thoughts of him.
"You know, they might still decide to have a fully open marriage later in life, and not just this dedicated threesome Eric and Spencer have with Frieda," her husband pointed out.
"If so, I hope they enjoy it," replied Martha. "After all, we've had some great sex together and with others over the years; but our love isn't based on just who else we share our bodies with, which is why our life/mate bond as werefoxes is so strong. Besides, an open marriage isn't for everyone."
"True," he agreed. "Yet even if you weren't bi and we had stayed strictly monogamous in life, I still love you Martha Anderson."
"And I love you too William, with all my heart and soul."
"You know, you were taking a risk making that offer to begin with. You certainly don't want to gain any kind of a bad reputation in Moon Lake. After all, look at the mess Julie Stovall's in right now."
"True," agreed Martha, "but then again, this was a one time deal and would have stayed strictly in our basement just between Spencer and myself."
"What if Spencer had taken you up on your offer?" asked William.
"Don't know. I have absolutely no interest in either of Eric's ladies sexually, but I would have been highly disappointed in Spencer and still worried about Eric until he finally did find true love."
"So you're not worried any more?"
"About Eric? No. We already know and trust the Lawsons quite well and even without having met him in person, by all accounts Frieda's uncle Lance is a good man. Until proven otherwise, Benton and Amanda Knight might still be a concern, but I definitively know now just how strongly Eric and Spencer, and by default Frieda, care about each other. Our youngest is in good paws between those two girls. Now if Nate can only figure out his love life and future."
"Well, his stint in detention this week will hopefully help," said William. "I'll see you after 8 my love," he added, before hanging up and going back to the text book he was reading. Might as well get a jump on future lesson plans, he thought.
Meanwhile, Martha Anderson fell asleep on her bed for a brief nap with happy thoughts about Eric and his future.
