As Frieda Knight was playing video games on her phone, Doctor Robinson came into the room.
"Miss Frieda, you're up early," she said, politely.
"And I presume you're still up Doctor," said Frieda in return.
"Yes. Just making my last rounds before calling it a night. Could I please talk to you outside so we don't disturb your parents."
"Certainly," said Frieda, pausing her game and walking out into the hallway with Doctor Robinson.
"First off, you're not bi-polar," revealed the doctor, to which Frieda simply smiled, since she had already confirmed that through her unique link with Eric and Spencer. "We unfortunately cannot guarantee that any offspring you might have will not be bi-polar too, since the disease has been known to skip family members and generations, but of course you're still years away from having to worry about that."
Frieda briefly thought about the daughter she and Eric would have when they were both 25, but pushed that thought aside for now as something to discuss with her friends and lovers later in private as the doctor continued talking.
"However, we did find evidence of something interesting during your test."
"Oh? What?" wondered Frieda, hoping everything was all right.
"There were a couple of times during the test when, as you can see on the charts like here and here," said Doctor Robinson, while holding up the color printout for Frieda to look at, "it appears that there are two separate and distinctive brain wave patterns coinciding with yours."
"Really?" asked Frieda with disbelief. "Must be Eric and Spencer," she added with a smile.
"Who?"
"Eric Anderson and Spencer Lawson, my boyfriend and girlfriend," replied Frieda, as if that was all the explanation anyone needed.
"Your father did say something to me about an... unique bond you allegedly have with two of your friends, but..."
"Allegedly?" asked Frieda, looking at the older adult a bit suspiciously.
"First off, you have to understand that I only had your father's word for this, and not to call Benton Knight a liar, but for someone not already aware of the... situation, you do have to admit this does sound a little far fetched," explained Doctor Robinson.
"Okay. From your perspective, I can understand your skepticism. But first off, I'm bi and quite happy to have both a boyfriend and a girlfriend who love me as much as I love them."
"Commendable," was all Doctor Robinson would say, thinking of some of her daughter Liv's dalliances with both genders.
"Secondly, are you in love Doctor?" wondered Frieda.
"Yes. I've been in love with the man who's my husband since we first met in college."
"Does he occupy a space in your heart and enter your thoughts on a regular basis?"
"Yes," replied Doctor Robinson, wondering where Frieda was going with this.
"Well, Eric and Spencer are within mine. I don't have actual conversations with them like we are now, but each of us can feel the others presence and mood, so knowing how they feel at any given moment can be quite comforting in a lot of circumstances, and gives me a heads up if there's an emergency to act quickly if necessary," explained Frieda.
"Hmmm.... Are all of you werepanthers?"
"Eric and I are. Spencer is a hybrid wolf/cat/panther mix."
"Interesting," replied Doctor Robinson, thinking things over. "The Skulk form a life/mate bond with their significant other to the point of pining for the lost partner until their own death if one should precede the other, but I've never heard of such a connection in any other were species before."*
"Well, there's a first time for everything," observed Frieda with a smile. "Tell me, is there any way to know who's who between the extra two patterns?"
"Not without either establishing a recording of your friends brain waves first for comparison, or knowing exactly when you were in contact with each of them when they appeared on your test results."
"Is this the correct time running along the bottom of the graph?"
"Yes. In five minute intervals unless there is a significant event recorded, like evidence of two separate brain waves appearing during the test," explained Doctor Robinson.
"Then that's Eric and that's Spencer," said Frieda happily, pointing to two different spots on the printout. "Is there any way I can get a copy of this?"
"Well, usually we only make extra copies if we have to send the results along to another doctor, but since you are the patient, doing so should be legal. However it will take about a half hour for the complete test to print out," explained Doctor Robinson.
"I only want the areas where Eric and Spencer appear."
"I can narrow the request accordingly, but it will still be about 5 to 10 minutes."
"I'll be in my mother's room waiting. Thank you Doctor Robinson," replied Frieda, before holding out her hand.
Doctor Robinson shook it, then turned to go honor her promise, wondering if she should of handled that conversation better, because she certainly didn't know any more now than she did before talking to Frieda Knight.
