You notice that one of the paths has a weathered stone marker at its head. Walking over, you can make out faint words carved into the stone which read "To Castrumiel". Maybe it was a town? Although you'd never heard of it, and you'd lived here all your life. You decided that, since it was still early and you didn't have anywhere to be today, you would go and see where this Castrumiel was.
The path was wide, but otherwise disused; grass and brambles choked the thoroughfare. You were determined to find this place, though, and continued to press forward. As you went, the path began to clear up, becoming a dirt road and eventually it was paved with flagstone. You began to hear the sound of people, a loud clamor which would suggest a crowded market or bustling street, but you still couldn't see anything. You kept going until the sound seemed right on top of you and you stopped in amazement at what you saw. It was a large castle sitting right in the center of a medieval town surrounded by walls, but it was almost transparent. You stood just inside the walls, though you didn't remember passing through the gate behind you. As you looked closer, you saw the ghostly forms of people in medieval garb crowding the streets, seeming to take no notice of you. It was as though you had stumbled into the spirit of an entire city.
Getting past your initial shock, you decide to keep pressing on. As you do, you notice the town becoming more solid, more real. By the time you reach the market which was the source of the noise you had heard earlier, everything looked normal, albeit 800 years too late. You cross the line between the main street and the market and feel a sudden wave of energy flow over and through your body. Something is wrong; you feel...different. You double over, your head pounding, and you feel a little woozy. Amid your splitting migraine, you hear the loud gasp of the crowd around you and force yourself to look:
Everyone has stopped. Each and every face has turned to stare at you with a look of surprise, confusion, and...fear? The migraine flees as quickly as it came and you can finally see why they are so appalled. You look at yourself and see...
