Lance and Lila, after having a little a little fun sharing a shower; where pulling up to The Local Diner. Seeing a town car drive off; Lance fails to register that it was his brother Benton behind the wheel. Both Lance and Lila stepping out of the Prius they head inside. Noticing that it has stopped raining they walk inside to take a seat at a nearby booth. The waitress handing them some menus as they take a seat
“So what are we going to eat for breakfast,” Lila looking at the menu; “lots of choices here.”
“I’m having blueberry waffles,” Lance putting his menu down.
“Oooh I see something here that I’ve always wanted to try,” Lila licking her lips; “Eggs Benedict.”
“And how would you like your eggs poached,” the waitress asking; “soft, medium or hard?”
“Soft,” Lila answers; oh and coffee, lots of it please.”
“Coffee as well please,” Lance also stating. Looking at Lila; “so what’s on you agenda today, work wise?”
“Mostly finishing off those budget reports for my supervisor,” Lila answers; “like the mayor, he is a wer-mer but Marcus is okay for a bean counter. Big guy; I think he is Samoan."
“Bean counter,” Lance chuckling; “I thought you said he was the town’s comptroller?”
“He is,” Lila smiling; but bean counter is a far more fun way of saying it.”
It was at that moment, the waitress comes back with their coffee. Placing a couple creamers and sugar packs on the table as well; both Lance and Lila pause to address their caffeine fix. Lance prefer his coffee without cream or sugar, and just drinks it as is; while Lila takes the sugar and dumps it all in.
“And here I thought you couldn’t get any sweeter;” Lance giggling.
“Wait until we go to bed later tonight,” Lila coos; “you’ll find I can be even sweeter.”
“I’ll hold you to that;” Lance laughing.
Minutes later the waitress returns with their order. Placing a plate of several blueberry waffles, with a mixed berry salad and whip cream on top in front of Lance. Lila’s plate was two soft poached eggs resting on a bed of ham and English muffins; topped with hollandaise sauce. Lila cutting into the eggs; the yolks ooze out mixing with the sauce.
Lance watching Lila enjoying her breakfast just sighs; “I guess I’ll have to learn how to make that breakfast,” as he cuts into his waffles.
“Don’t tell me can’t cook,” Lila teasing; “cause that’s deal breaker.”
“I can cook,” Lance answering chuckling; “just not that well.”
“I know,” Lila smiling; “I’m teasing you. This breakfast is great, but it’s clearly rich and heavy. It’s not something I want daily.”
“Keep your paws off my waffles then,” Lance sticking his tongue out like a child.
Lance and Lila continue teasing each other as they enjoy their breakfast. Noticing the waitress discreetly place the bill on the table as they nearly finish; Lance pulls out his phone as he feels it vibrate from a text message; his eyes open wide with surprise.
‘Just dropped Frieda, Eric and Spencer off at school. Waiting for you at your gazette. B’
“Well that’s a surprise,” Lance putting his phone away; “Benton is at the Gazette. I wonder what he wants?”
“Perhaps it has something to do with the were-panther gathering;” Lila commenting as she finishes her breakfast.
“Or a half dozen other things,” Lance getting up; “I’ll find out when I get there. You want me to drop you off at the town hall?”
“Sure,” Lila grins; it’ll give everyone a chance to gossip as they see me climb out of your car.”
Lance laughs as he pays for breakfast; tipping generously, they both leave. First to the town hall to drop Lila off to work; secondly to head to wok himself and wonder what Benton wants to talk about.
