However, before Danny had time at all to react or think what to do the remaining hour of his transformation, he heard the door opening behind him. The boy turned caveman turned around and yelped in pain as his eyes were blinded by the bright light coming from the hallway. Danny shielded his eyes with his right arm, while still gripping the phone tightly in his hand.
"Danny, I ordered you to turn off that...! OH, GOD!" Danny's mom shrieked at the sight of the hulking brute standing in the darkness of her son's bedroom.
"Mom! Wait, it's me!" Danny stammered, still shielding himself from the light.
"Who are you?! Where's Danny?!" Lacey yelled, grabbing a book from the nearest shelf and throwing it at him. The book bounced off Danny's thick hide and crashed to the floor with a loud thud.
"Ow! Mom, it's me!" Danny grunted, and his deep, animalistic voice made his mother scream again. "Mom, it's me! An app in this phone made me into a caveman! Look!"
Danny showed his mom the cellphone, which still displayed the screen with his own info and the timer.
"Liar! I'm calling the police!" Lacey snapped, walking back to the stairs leading down to the first floor.
Danny had to do something, and do it quick.
If his mom managed to reach the living room, she would definitely call the nearest police station; which was only a ten minute drive from his home. Danny glanced at the phone's screen for a second, and noticed that aside from his personal info and the remaining time countdown, there was a blinking "SELECT ANOTHER OBJECTIVE" option.
Maybe if he De-Evolved her... maybe then she'd understand and realize there was no reason to be scared. But on the other hand, Danny wasn't feeling entirely okay with the idea of turning his own mother into a hairy montrosity like him, a monkey or something far below the evolutionary ladder.
Who knew how far the damn thing went? What if he ended up de-evolving her into a single-celled organism by mistake?
Danny heard his mom's footsteps as she raced down the stairs.
Clock was ticking.
