The creature staring back at James was a fat, warty toad. He couldn't believe this - now way was it real! It must be some kind of really clever illusion. He made to complain to Kayla about the situation but let out a series of croaking sounds which Kayla giggled at delightedly. James walked - no, jumped forward and the lowly amphibian in the mirror moved in unison.
"See, I really am a witch!" Kayla smiled smugly "But I shouldn't get too cocky. Toad transformation is really a beginners spell, and I must confess I'm not totally sure I've worked out how to reverse it yet. I guess I need a lot more practice"
James, who still totally understood everything Kayla said, could only hope she was joking.
"Now, I guess I need to decide what to do with you. Maybe you'd like some company? Or maybe not. If only I spoke frog we could discuss this properly!" she taunted.
