Jack and the wolf-boy

added by Eru 7 years ago A

Jack was taking out the trash from his apartment. It was a cloudless full moon night, so he didn't bother turning on the court yard light. It was nice and quiet out here. A cozy little closed off garden and a small area of bricked corner where he kept the trash cans up against the tool shed.

It had been a stressful day, but out here it all seemed to wash away. This little isolated place was his private sanctuary away from all the worlds troubles. Vines grew thick on one tall fence. Thick enough that no one could see in. Though when he wanted, he could poke a finger threw and watch the entire street outside the house and backyard. With out that ivy, this sanctuary would be the least private place ever. Apart from the house and fence, the two other walls were two meter high concrete walls.

Jack unlocked the shed and brought out a collapsible chair and lay back with a beer in hand. As he sat there, looking at the moon, he reflected that this was the first beer he had actually drunk legally. It was by far not the first alcohol he had touched. It was just that this was the first time since his 21st birthday. He hadn't gotten around to celebrating yet. University had been so busy, with exams and everything. He tried not to think about the troubles of school. This was relaxation time.

He took another sip from his bottle and looked up to see a large dog standing on the top of the wall. It snarled at him. This was so out of place that Jack just looked blankly at it for a moment.

It leaped down at him, growling, fangs bared. Jacks body did the thinking for him. He sprawled sideways out of the chair and got the cheep aluminum and plastic fabric furniture between him and the beast. The chair folded together as the dog landed on top of it. One paw trapped in between the contraption. It chomped the air, trying to sink its teeth into Jacks arm. Jack kicked both chair and dog back into the shed.

With a yelp, the large black dog landed on its back, legs pulling free from the chair and tried to get up. Jack slammed shut the shed door and fumbled for the padlock. He felt the dog throw itself at the door. Click. The lock shut.

Jack panted for breath. Calming his thumping heart. Inside the shed, the dog barked and growled and it scratched and clawed at the door. It was a sturdy shed. Made to be difficult for even humans to brake into. That made a perfect cage. He just hoped his tools would be alright in there. He heard the dog trying in vain to dig its way out threw the brick floor.

Jack pulled himself up onto the wall where the dog had come from. There was nowhere that he could see that they dog could have gotten up there. Though the wall did run from house to house all along the neighborhood. He couldn't see all the sides to it. Either the dog had jumped out of one of the windows of one of the neighbors or there had been something stacked somewhere against a wall to allow the dog to climb.

Well, this had certainly ruined his relaxed mood. He looked back at his courtyard. His beer had been spilled. Damn it. He looked at his phone. 00:06. To late to call anyone about the dog. He'd deal with it tomorrow. He had to get up early anyway. Should get some sleep, if only his heart would go back to its normal beat.
