As time continued to pass, James felt increasingly detached from his past life as a human and more and more like he had always been a toad. It just felt normal now. Sure, he retained his human mind and memories and sometimes wished things could go back to how they were but he had realistically given up any hope of that happening. He wasn't keeping track of time too much these days as he had nowhere other than the pond to be, but he knew it had been weeks since his encounter with Kayla and it seemed obvious she wasn't coming back. As far as he was aware she wasn't local and had probably moved onto the next town along with the rest of the circus long ago.
But this life wasn't so bad, the regular cycle of swimming, catching bugs and basically socialising with other frogs and toads , which he was learning better to communicate with every day and who seemed to have accepted him as one of their own, was actually quite relaxing and stress free.
More days turned into nights and nights back into days and still James remained as a toad in the pond near where the circus he had fatefully visited so long ago. He wondered if anything would change for him now.
