As he stared into the mirror, Patrick suddenly caught movement coming from the stairs, and spun with a shout to face whoever it was. His cry caught Jason and Shane by surprise and they stumbled back, then stared at him in confusion. He was so relieved to see his friends that he started towards them, then stopped when they backed further away, looking scared.
"Guys! It's me! I picked up a kid's shirt, and the next thing I new I was wearing this loser getup!" He sniffed and wiped his nose on his sleeve again.
"Patrick?" It was Jason who got over his shock first and approached. In a way, Patrick was relieved that they seemed to see the same things he was seeing. At least he wasn't going crazy. Jason stared at him, then walked around him to check all around. "Damn, dude! You look like you belong on the Brady Bunch!"
Shane came over and scowled as Patrick wiped his nose on his sleeve again. "Gross, man! Get some Kleenex!"
"Huh?" It took Patrick a moment to realize what Shane was talking about. "Fuck! I can't stop my nose from running!"
Shane grinned. "You shouldn't have made fun of snot-nosed ghosts."
They stared at each other, listening to a mix of faint sounds that seemed to rise and fall. The fake car sounds still came from the partially-open door beside them. Someone was bouncing a ball further down, and they could hear a little girl skipping rope to a song. Was that come older boys fighting?
Patrick felt a strong curiosity about the car sounds, while Shane and Jason were interested in the sounds of a fight. Shane took a few steps towards the shouting. "Let's check it out!"
