Jeff cursed the fact that, as a butterfly, his body was ill-equipped to do something as simple as ring a doorbell. He felt like giving up when he remembered something.
His parents had installed a pet door at the backdoor. The small flap allowed Skippy free access to the kitchen and the rest of the house whenever he tired of roaming the back yard. Would the pet door possibly also provide a means of getting back inside the house?
"I've got to try!" Jeff said, recovering his determination to overcome his blundering misuse of the Chronivac.
More swear words formed in Jeff's impatient thoughts as he discovered that butterflies never seem to hurry. Their fluttery wings keep them aloft, but more often than not their erratic flight takes them in pointless circles. With some effort, Jeff managed to keep his new body more focused on the task of flight.
He skimmed over the tops of flowers in the garden on his way to the backdoor. He felt like doing a little dance, which translated into his butterfly wings sending his body into a couple of celebratory loops. There was plenty of room on either side of the rubber flap for him to squeeze his way into the kitchen. That was fortunate, he figured, since his weak butterfly form would never have been able to push against the huge flap in order to ensure his entry.
