You can't help but ponder the question. You were so sure when you came in here that you just wanted a burger, but now...? You were leaning a very particular way now, with a craving you couldn't deny. The more you thought about it, the more you realized you needed it. That was the one exact food that was the right dish. Anything else was just... wrong.
"I uh..." You start with an unsure stammer, fidgeting a bit in your seat. "I could really go for something... green. Like a salad or something. But no dressing."
Dot smirked, and nodded her bovine head slowly, almost as if she knew more than you did. Well - no almost about it. She definitely knew more than you did.
"I have just the thing," she said, and quickly left for the kitchen. You watched as she went, curious. Surely, an order as vague as that wasn't going to...
The cow-woman was back faster than you had expected, with a covered tray in her hooflike hand. That same smirk across her snout, she dropped the tray on the table and quickly grabbed the lid, holding on and keeping you in suspense. You could smell something under that lid - something that smelled great, but you didn't know for sure what.
"Ta-daaaaa!" She removed the lid with a flourish and a flick of her tail, and you stated in disbelief.
"You... You..." you stammered, a bit shocked. You were thinking a bed of lettuce, some carrots, maybe radishes...
"It's exactly what you were craving, right?" she asked, waiting for you. No utensils, no napkins, not even a garnish. Just a... a...
"It's... A chunk of sod? Grass?" you ask, eyebrows raised.
"Yup!" Dot answered with a grin. You couldn't believe that she'd just... just... ooh, but it did smell good, and you had to admit to yourself that this was getting more and more appetizing the longer it sat in front of you...
Bracing your hands on the table, you dip your head down before you quite realize what you're doing and begin to chomp down on the grass with a vigorous need. And by God, it really is delicious. Tastes just right, and has the perfect texture. The perfect taste. You never imagined grass tasted so good, but it really really did.
"Knew you'd like it!" Dot proclaimed triumphantly as you licked your lips clean. That was so good. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I want more," you find yourself saying, forcefully and with conviction.
"Coming right up, herdmate!" Dot chimes with a teasing tone to her voice as she trotted back to the kitchen, hooves clopping on the floor with each step.
Herdmate - was she right? Were you on the way to becoming a cow, like her? Did she have something to do with that? She said nobody knew, but it seemed suspicious that she said she wanted a new cow, and it seemed that was exactly what you were becoming.
