"Show-and-tell!" Jeff thought indignantly. "I'm not some freak for a grade-school nerd's homework..."
If only he had stood a little less on dignity and more on practicality. The giant man easily snatched the ineffectual butterfly in mid-air and smartly introduced the insect to a rather restrictive plastic container onto which the man affixed a secure lid.
It all happened so fast, Jeff was left completely nonplussed. He had made it back inside the house only to get himself captured and confined within a tiny plastic container. If only he could dismiss the mishap as a mere setback. But, as his frantic flutterings demonstrated, the incident was a catastrophe. His only hope of becoming human again rested with the Chronivac, which remained connected to his computer in his room.
He wished he had never heard of the stupid Chronivac. Of all the stupid transformations, why had he chosen a butterfly? Could there be anything more useless and helpless?
Even as Jeff contemplated all these questions, the man finished quickly with the monthly pest prevention, eager to get home and present the surprise to his kid.
