Jennifer sat down towards the back and closed her eyes. The headache was slowly beginning to worsen, and all should could do was rub her temples and close her eyes to dim the light.
It can't be the transformation, she thought to herself. He even said it wouldn't start until 12 o'clock at night.
After a moment of hoping the headache would ease with her eyes close, she gave up and continued searching on her phone. By the time they pull into the school parking lot, she realized that the stories of werewolves, man-wolfs, lycanthropes, and whatever else people wanted to call them outnumbered the population of New York by at least double. They were fiction, and as such, there were a ton of versions that existed. However some details did appear more often than others.
But why am I feeling a headache now? Might this just be a normal headache.
"Oh shit, Jenn. You sure you're alright?" Peter had slowed his steps as he stepped in front of her. He stared with concern. Yet, something seemed off about him.
"I'm fine." She swallowed and headed towards the front door. Doing so, she saw Kyle stepping off of one of the other buses. She quickly changed direction and walked right up to him. "You're an idiot," she said to him.
He smiled for a moment, but his eyes blinked as he looked at her. "Good morning to you too. I see one of the random elements kicked off on the first day. Neat."
Random elements? Wait. He also said the timing of things would be unpredictable. How would the curse take that? If it were to always happen at midnight, how could it be unpredictable? Crap. Even the curse Kyle spewed out didn't fully make sense. Or was she just not getting it. "You get embarrassed and your idea of revenge actually puts other people's lives at risk. Somehow you think you're coming out of this the good guy?"
"Please," he snorted. "You don't want anybody's injury or death on your conscience. I'm sure you'll be careful."
A dark thought passed through her head. "Why would you say that?"
"Because I said you would feel guilty and sad in the morning if you did. That was my safety line to prevent you from actually going out and hurt anyone." His smug grin was highly punchable.
He continued grinning at her, but after a few seconds his smile faltered. She knew something was wrong with her face, probably her eyes. Too many people nearby were glancing at her, but with a few nonchalant wipes at her bangs, she couldn't feel any changes. She thought, is there even really a curse, or am I just being paranoid. No. He's worried about something. Hold that grin.
She stepped closer to him. "You turned me into a werewolf via transformation. You can't tell me how to feel. Maybe if I had allowed you to dare me you could, but you could only change me. You did. Now I'll tell you how I feel after a night on the prowl." She licked her lips hungrily. "That is... if you're still alive."
The sight of Kyle's face dropping all of its blood into his feet was highly satisfying, enough to even make her forget about the headache. He ran inside... fast.
Feeling a little better, she went inside, waved hello to a few friends, one who even commented on her "wicked contacts", and she headed into the bathroom. Sure enough, her eyes were gone. Instead she saw two golden yellow eyes staring back at her. The whites were gone. Only black and gold remained.
A part of her felt panic and fear. Another part of her felt... excited.
Without warning her muscles tensed. She inhaled deeply. The gasp was loud enough to make a few other girls at the mirror start and look at her. Ignoring them, she forced her wolven-eyes open and searched for what was changing on her now. Stupid Kyle. He tried to lay down the rules so cleaning, but then he added in a statement saying that the times she changed either a little or completely would be unpredictable and random. In other words, the curse could act on her in any way at any time.
Then she noticed what was changing.
