Dan finished work early.
He knew vicky was re-decorating, and was wanting to help out anyway he could. He had mixed feelings over his ex.
He still loved her, but she was too demanding, he couldnt find time to be with himself. As her friend he pretty much chose when he was going to see her, and always had time for himself.
He pulled up outside of her home, and rang the bell, vicky answered and gave him a hug, and they both went up stairs to carry on with the emptying of vicky's many items of clothing.

Vicky marched Dan upstairs, she was eager to show him all the old things she had found, which they both had sentimental value between them. Mybe it would bring Dan round into seeing how good a thing they both had.
Dan seemed happy to be there, and she was shappy enough to throw all the old pictures and items under his nose which may spark some sort of sentimental value from him.
Finally, she showed him the ring.
"remember that last week we spent together?, when we went to that fair?"
Dan nodded "oh yeah, i was nearly sick after that ride we went on" he laughed to himself.
"well", vicky said "remember this?" vicky took the ring from off her finger, and passed it to dan.
"wow, you stil have this! you kept on at me for ages until i bought you this thing"
"yeah i nearly lost it, i thought you hated me, but, i guess you still must have feelings for me, or you wouldnt be here, right?" Vicky looked hopefull, but knew she was on dangerous ground.
Dan took the ring, and then passed it back "yeah, listen, i have to go..."
"im sorry" said vicky "i didnt mean to bring anything up i just thought, since..."
"its ok, im just not comfortable talking about this yet, you know how i feel vicky, im just not sure what to do"
Vicky smiled a little fake smile. "its ok, you know what im like"
Dan smiled "im sure things will work out one way or another"
Vicky looked remorseful, instead of being struck by this feeling, she decided to lighten the tone.
"well, its only a ring after all, and i only got you to buy it, because i thought it would look good on you!"
Dan laughed again, loudly this time. "Oh yeah, im sure it will look fantastic on me". Vicky grabbed Dan's hand and put the ring on him.
"will you marry me Dan?" Vicky was laughing, but dan took it the wrong way. and it was clear on his face. " i was just joking dan..."
"Ill speak to you over the weekend Vicky, i need some time to think..." Dan stood up, and left Vicky alone. Vicky knew she had messed up. And watched as dan left the house.

Dan got home and threw his keys on the workplace of his kichen. He got undressed and got straight into bed. He was going to have to stop seeing vicky, and he knew it. He looked at the ring vicky had gave him on his finger, and felt bad.
He just didnt feel strong enough for her, and he felt bad to lead her on. Maybe they could meet up in a year and see how things went from there. Uneasy, and sad, Dan felt sleep overcome him.
