"Brian! You're breakfast is getting cold!" shouted his mother Emily, already dressed for her first job that day.
"Okay mom!" Brian yelled back, before coming into the kitchen to join her, dressed for the day himself.
As mother and son dug into bowls of warm oatmeal, she looked at him and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Bad dream," was his only answer.
"Want to talk about it?" she offered in return.
"Well... you might get mad at me again if I do," said Brian.
"What I was mad at was you hanging out with an older were, let alone letting her try and talk you into becoming a male prostitute, let alone having an 'audition' with another older female were," explained his mother. "I can't get mad at you about a dream since none of it happened."
"Well, I already explained to you why I was even considering that to begin with," he reminded her.
"Your intentions might have been noble, but two wrongs don't make a right."
"Okay. I'll tell you, but remember, you asked," said Brian, before recounting what he could of it before he woke up.*
Emily Walker sat in her kitchen chair, listening to her son.
At first she continued eating her oatmeal, for the part about being before a psychiatrist was pretty benign.
But when he got to the part about possibly having witnessed his own death, first she stopped and stared at him, then Emily Walker dropped her spoon as she leaped out of her chair to hug her son.
"Oh Brian!" she cried, holding him close and unable to stop crying.
"It's okay mom," said Brian, trying to reassure her, and himself. "Besides the fact it was at least a year in my future, I don't even know who those weretigers were and I haven't heard from Betty, if that's even her real name, since that evening with Alyssa," he added, not mentioning his new/secret cellphone and the further communications with her. "Besides, it was all just a bad dream. Right?"
"You don't understand son," said his mother, while trying to collect herself. "What you experienced might have been what some weres refer to as a prophecy dream."
"What's that?" asked Brian, never having heard the term before.
"Some weres believe, when they're either seriously worried about something or have major decisions to make, that they have what are called prophecy dreams, where they are shown what might happen, depending upon what they do."
"Really?" asked Brian in disbelief. "Have you ever had one?"
"No," said Emily Walker, lying to her son. How can I tell you the only one I ever had warned me not to marry your father and I did so anyway? Despite all the shit I've had to deal with over the years even before he left us, I still have you, so something good came out of my marriage after all. "But that doesn't mean they don't happen," she quickly added.
"Geez..." said Brian, seriously thinking things over. My other cell is off and hidden right now. So Mom won't find it even if Betty does contact me again. But still...
"So, what do I do?" he finally asked.
"Well," began his mother, straightening herself up and going back to her seat. "First we finish breakfast, then you go off to school and I go to work. But I'd heed the advice you were given. The answers, and the love you truly want, are out there. Just be open to the possibilities when they cross your path."
"And how will I know what those are, let alone when..."
"That I'm afraid I don't know," admitted Emily Walker. "Now we better get going, and say hi to Andrew Curtis for me if you see him while you're working at the Elders' Council building after school today ."
