"Hey, Brett, you down here, dude?" the blond 13 year old called as he tromped down the stairs.
Jeff Thompson was one of Brett's best friends. The two had known each other since grade school and shared a lot of the same interests: comics, sports, computer games. Both of them were looking forward to being on the JV swim team, the first practice just a week away.
Brett froze for a moment as he heard Jeff call his name. He couldn't let himself be seen like this, naked and only six inches tall. But could he not let himself be seen? Brett still had no idea how he'd been shrunk or if he could be returned to normal. For that matter, what if he was still shrinking?
"Hey dude, where are you?" Jeff called again as he reached the end of the staircase and took a quick look around the basement. The workbench was on the opposite wall from where stairs were. That part of the basement was still dark, except where the light came in through the window.
Embarrassment at what'd happened to him finally made up Brett's mind. He was about to make a run for it and hide behind a can of paint when the lights flickered on overhead. He froze and looked wide eyed back to the stairs. Jeff was staring at him, his eyes also wide.
"Brett, what the..." Jeff started to say when he was distracted by something moving by the small crack in the window. As if seeing one six inch tall person wasn't enough, here was another one, who was also just as naked as Brett was, dropping down onto the workbench.
As he hit the workbench, Matt gave Brett a smug smile. "Hey, dude, small world..." Matt's smile vanished as he realized he wasn't alone with Brett.
