Gleefully I started looking over my new body as the transformation seemingly neared completion. I lowered my snake tail down to look at my new feet, admiring the powerful claws at their tips. Simultaneously, I was craning the snake on my neck out in front of my dog face to have a look at that. Before I knew it, I was looking myself in the eye--a surreal experience. It was odd, watching through my new dog eyes as a snake dropped down into my view field, its tongue flicking in and out, its eyes fixed on mine. Even weirder was to also be the snake, looking back toward a menacing canine face which glanced up at me and started to pant. I was really a rather hideous creature, with those dull yellow teeth, those pitch black eyes, and that slimy canine slobber dripping down out of my short, wrinkly snout.
I was just in time to watch the grand finale as two new disgusting dog heads finished coalescing on either side of my "original" one. They promptly opened their eyes and started looking around.
After a few seconds, I began to wonder why I couldn't see through their eyes as well. My neck snake was darting its eyes back and forth, trying to get a good look at them. Desperate for more info, my snake tail perked up and looked over my back, giving me the view from behind. I turned my (middle) dog head to the right, just in time to make eye contact with the other dog head looking left at me.
"Why am I on the right?" he said in a confused, gravelly voice. "And why can't I see through the snake eyes anymore?"
"Who are you?" I asked, my voice deeper and more growly than I remembered.
"I'm Jeff," he said, as though it were supposed to be obvious.
"No, I'm Jeff," I corrected. "I watched you grow out of my neck just now with these snake eyes."
"But I remember everything," he said. "at least, right up until I found myself over here."
Confused, I turned left to look at the other new dog head, his eyes still glued to the snake in front of him.
"I suppose you're going to say you're Jeff, too?" I said.
"I just wanted to try out the Chronovirac," he said. His voice was a little softer, a little more uncertain. "I thought it would be fun to be one of those cool Greek mythology figures. Then snakes started growing out of my body. For a moment, I was able to see in three places at once. And then suddenly I couldn't, but that snake thing is still staring at me."
Right-Jeff interrupted. "Dude, if you're controlling the snake, could you quit flicking your tongue out like that? It's really giving me the creeps."
"I can't help it," I answered. "I keep getting this urge to taste the air. I'll just move the snake back behind us so you don't have to look at it."
"Wait, guys?" said left-Jeff nervously. "I think I'm paralyzed."
Taking stock of my own mobility, I realized that although I controlled three of our five heads, I couldn't move anything else. "Oh no, I can't move my legs!" my dog head exclaimed. I could feel the muscular legs underneath under me, sturdily holding me up, but I couldn't bend a knee or lift a paw. I hissed through my snakes in confusion.
One by one, without any control from me, the paws started lifting up and down. Right-Jeff gave a smirk. "It looks like I'll be the one doing the walking from now on."
Relieved that at least one of us would be able to maneuver this body around, I nevertheless gave a pitiful sigh. "I'm sorry you didn't get to move anything," I said to the head on our left.
"Wait guys, something's coming," left-Jeff expectantly proclaimed.
A tingling in our back drew my attention as our black-furred body sprouted broad, white, large-feathered wings. I watched from my snake heads as they started waving gently.
"Oh yes!" said left-Jeff proudly and flapped them harder. "This is going to be awesome."
