While helping strengthen Animalia's relation to the rest of the country was important and rewarding in itself, getting paid to do it was a huge bonus for Abby and her friends. And they were being paid quite a large amount which made them very happy...
...That is if they were allowed to spend it.
"WHAT?!" snapped Sarah, "We earned our money fair and square and you want to lock it away?!"
"We're not locking it away, we're just storing it," said her father, "Trust me, all that money will come in handy for paying for your college education."
"College education?!" snapped Malice, "I'm a dog! I might be an uplifted dog, but I don't need to go to college!"
"Is that so?" asked Julia, "Your goal is to become a policewoman, right?"
"Basically," said Malice.
"Do you really think police squads just let anyone walk in and apply? You have to go through the police academy first and that requires a LOT of studying," said Julia, "And even if you skipping regular college for the police academy, you think enrollment is free? You'll need to stockpile a lot of money to be able to that job you want."
Sarah pouted and said, "It's not fair. We earned that money, we ought to be able to spend some of it,"
"Oh, you'll get an allowance," said Thomas, "About 20% of your intake. That ought to be enough spending money, especially when you consider how much you make and how often you're paid."
"We already spoke to your friends' parents about this and they agree. They want to make sure their girls get a college education and by the time you graduate, your accounts ought to be able to pay off your tuition," said Julia, "And if you really need more spending money, there's nothing stopping you from getting part-time jobs that won't clash with your ambassadorial duties."
Sarah and Malice gave groans of frustration before walking away. "It's time like this that I wish our folks weren't bankers," grumbled Malice.
"Only Dad's a banker, Mom's an office worker," said Sarah.
"Just one is bad enough," grumbled Malice.
