Nestled between a glistening lake and an ever-expanding forest lies Camp Totem. This camp isn't very well known. Only about 20 campers come each year, and this year, you are one of them.
**************************
You step out of the dinky old bus that had brought you here. You're dressed in jean shorts and a loose blouse, trying to escape the hot summer heat. You carry only two things- a pink duffel bag and a small blue suitcase.
You approach a woman and she smiles at you. "Welcome to Camp Totem, Caroline is it?" She greets. You nod. "Good! You're assigned to the Otter Cabin." She says, pointing to a small cabin with a flag on it.
"Thanks." You say as you walk towards it. Hope they've got ac. You think.
You open the door to the cabin and walk in. There's four beds, (Two bunkbeds) a small desk, and a nightstand next to each bunkbed.
You place your duffel on one of the top bunks and put your suitcase in one of the corners. You climb up to the bunk you claimed and lie down. You close your eyes and feel at peace. But not for long.
The door slams open and two girls march in. You roll over on your side to get a good look at them.
One of them is a tall brown haired girl. She has long hair that goes down to her butt and she wears a white t-shirt and jean shorts.
The other is a blonde. She's average in height and has short hair. She wears a light blue tank top and exercise shorts.
They put their bags down on the bunkbed on the other side of the room and turn around. The blonde is the first to notice you. She flinches when she notices you and then introduces herself. "Hi, I'm Jameson." She says. The brown haired girl introduces herself as well. "Sarah." She says. You wave. "I'm Ellie." You say, trying to sound friendly.
"So," Jameson says. "have you ever been here before?" You shake your head. "Nope." You say. "Neither have we. First time h-" Sarah is cut off by the door slamming open.
All of your new friends jump, as do you. A short, dark headed girl burst into the cabin. "Eek! Am I late?!" She asks, throwing her stuff onto the bed.
"Uh... No?" You say. She sighs and slows down a bit. "I'm Kate, by the way." She says, opening her small duffel. To your bewilderment, she pulls out Beanie Boo after Beanie Boo and loads them on her bed.
"Uh, sorry to interrupt," Sarah says. "but, how are you going to sleep?" Kate stops and looks at her bed with a sense of pride.
Your jaw drops. Her bed is completely covered with Beanie Boos. "I'll manage." She says, pridefully.
"Uh, ok..." Sarah says, dumbfounded.
You hear a bell ring and your cabinmates walk outside. You follow.
"Welcome to Camp Totem!" The woman from before says. "Here we have 5 cabins, 4 people in each. There's the Otter Cabin, Bear Cabin, Wolf Cabin, Eagle Cabin, and the Salmon Cabin. The point of splitting you into cabins is for a challenge. We have activities everywhere. Archery, fishing, kyaking, swimming, and hiking. You will complete each one and take a test. If you pass the test, you earn one point for your cabin. 2 weeks before you leave, you will take a final test on everything you've learned. If you pass this test, you will earn 2 points. Whichever cabin has the most points after the test wins a trip to the forest for the last week. One more thing- you may NOT enter the forest unless you win. Got it?"
Everyone murmurs. "Great!" The lady says. "If you need me, I'm Counsellor B." She adds.
Everyone goes back to their cabins, including you.
"Well that was weird." You say. "What?" Kate asks, lying down on her Beanie Boo infested bed. "That we can't go to the forest." You say.
"I've heard rumors about that place," Jameson says. "that anyone who goes there gets turned into a totem animal."
"Oh, so that explains why it's called Totem Forest!" Kate says. Jameson nods.
"What a bunch of crap!" Sarah scoffs. Jameson grins. "Who knows?" She says. What if it is real? You think for a second. You then shake it off. No way.
"And I'll prove it too." Sarah says. "What? You can't do that! It's not allowed!" You reason.
"I'll go at night." Sarah says. She looks at her watch. "At 2:00 AM." She says. You glance down at the alarm clock on your nightstand. It's 7:25 PM.
Do any of you want to go?" Sarah asks.
