The Magic Shop

Kathy opens up

added 6 years ago O

"...Uhh, hello? Earth to Kat?"

Kathy jolted aware at the sound of her friend's voice. Though Kathy had a nasty habit of never talking to other people, there was one specific person she had forged a strong bond with; Sasha Saudislav. Darker than herself, smarter than herself, and in her eyes, much prettier. Talked too much, did too little.

"No, please, don't say anything Kat. I can tell you like that floor." Sasha also had a habit of obnoxiously injecting insufferable sarcasm into everything she did.

"Sorry, Sasha, my mind's occupied." She went back to staring at the floor. (I can't get that dream off of my mind. Everything felt too real.)

"Ohh, occupied. Coulda told me you were renting out." She chuckled at her own joke.

Kathy had an odd feeling about her. Somehow, there was a feeling inside of her, very deep, that wanted to try and explain the dream to Sasha. No, not explain the dream, she had a burning desire to just open up in front of her and lay bare the contents of her mind. Somehow, until recently it hadn't made sense to her why she liked Sasha; she wasn't judgemental.

"Hey, Sash?" Sasha stopped sucking her straw and responded with a plain "Yeah?"

"Have you ever wanted something you know you can't have?"

"Yeah, more than you'll ever know."

"I mean, not something that could happen, but is just unlikely, I mean something that would need to break the laws of nature to happen."

"Oh," she said "like you dumping that waste of flesh you call a partner?"

Kathy was surprised at the harsh tone of Sasha's response. "Did I upset you or something> I really didn-"

"No, keep going, keep going."

"Well," Kathy continued, "I had this dream last night."

Sasha perked up. She was interested.

"There was... a type of voice. I didn't know where I was, but it was sunny, and grassy. My..." She couldn't say she was naked. "My clothes were different. The voice was talking to me, about what kind of person I am, and who I could be, and..."

Sasha pursed her lips. "Uh-huh. Sounds like a case for a psychologist or something."

"It talked about Ted."

Sasha's interest was once again piqued. "What'd it say about him?"

"That I should get rid of him."

Kathy covered her mouth. How had she just said those words? Where did it come from?

"Hell yeah!" Sasha reached out for a high-five. "Showin' some initiative!"

"B-b-but I can't."

Sasha again switched moods. "Kathy, you aren't happy with that... user. I can see it. Listen to that voice in your head. Look, how about I back you up secretly on your next date with him, and you break up? I'll help you if there's trouble."

"Sasha," Kat said, trembling. "It's only two days away, I can't prepare emotionally."

"Please, Kat. You can't let this asshole walk all over you for the rest of your life. Just, consider it, okay?"

Kathy stood up quickly, visibly unnerved by the turn of events. "I gotta go. I'll pay you back later." She hurried out of the door.

Sasha sighed. "She's never gonna like me that way."
