John sighed with relief as he reached his apartment. It had been a very long walk. His new body had surprisingly high stamina and he wasn't really tired. But he was constantly hungry. With some embarrassment he had frequently stopped and grabbed some tall grass to chew on as he walked. But he never seem satisfied and even with his goal in sight he still felt hungry.
Thankfully that was the only other real change he noticed. His body didn't continue to transform. He was also grateful that nobody had stopped him. A few cars honked at him as they drove by, undoubtedly teasing the weirdo wearing the strange cow costume. But no one stopped and he was better off for it. It was much easier to walk than to try explaining how he looked to someone offering him a ride.
He was careful to stay in the shadows as he approached the door to his apartment. Luckily, it was on the ground floor. He did not know how he would have made it if he had to climb up some stairs. The loud noise of his hooves clanging on the metal stairs would have undoubtedly drawn the attention of everyone in the apartment complex. And then he would have had some serious explaining to do. But whatever god had cursed him with bad luck tonight must have felt a little guilty because he safely made it to his apartment door undetected.
Just as he reached for the knob he realized he had no keys. He must have left them in the pocket of his jeans, the jeans he abandoned on the road after he transformed. It didn't matter. Again, lucky for him it was the night of the Big Game and everyone was at his apartment, including his roommate. He knocked loudly on the door, a little more loudly than he intended as he realized that he needed to be more careful with his new strength. He was still trying to think of how he could explain his appearance when the door suddenly opened.
