You stare at it, struggling to believe it's really yours. It is covered in black and white fur and hangs down almost to the floor with a coarse white tassel at the end. You know what it is--it's the same kind of tail you see on cows as you drive past them on the highway. But this one is hanging out of a split in the back of your pants, and you know it's what you felt pushing out of you on the way to the gas station.
"Sh**, that old b**** gave me a tail!" you cry out and reach down your hands snatch up the new appendage. Nothing can really describe the feeling of holding your own tail in your hands, tracing the soft fur. In one way, it's like touching a third arm or a leg--it's just as real, and your mind slowly begins to process that this is just another body part you now have. But the actual sensations are completely different: the fur, the many joints moving as you bend it in different directions. You look back at the mirror and see almost your normal self, but with one hand holding a cow's tail off to the side, stretching out from behind you. You are wide-eyed with a mix of fear and rage.
At last you simply drop the tail and let it hang down between your legs again. You can't see it in the mirror (which just shows your upper body, above the sink), but you can still feel it back there, and you notice it is still swaying slightly from the disturbance. You start to wonder if you can move it intentionally. As if in answer to your question, the cow tail suddenly swings back into view as it lurches up and to the side, before dropping back down again.
"Sh**!" you curse again, revolted that you now have this thing on your body that belongs on a common barnyard animal. Still, you swish it back and forth a few more times, trying out the feelings from your new appendage.
Your stomach still feels weird...
