Petra finished the circle of protection with the salt she had swiped from the cafeteria on her way to the basement.
Petra had spent the morning reading through the book in her classes, much to the consternation of her teachers. She had planned on taking it home and experimenting with the spells inside there. But by lunch she could wait no longer. She snuck into the basement of the school and began the preparations for her first spell.
From what she could understand, the spell was supposed to unleash your inner beast, the silent animal spirit bound to your soul or something like that. She knew her spirit animal had to be something cool or powerful, like a raven or a black panther. Then she would show all those kids who picked on her. The ones who teased her for being different, for dressing in black and using heavy black makeup, for liking the supernatural and withcraft, for being a little short and chubby. This spell would make ber beautiful and powerful, with the confidence to back it up. Then they would all like her.
Or at least fear her. She wasn't exactly sure how the spell would work. It might turn her into some kind of monster. But that was okay, too. If she couldn't be loved, she was satisified with being feared.
Safely inside the salt protection circle, Petra reviewed the spell one final time, carefully making sure she had not missed any important details. The candles were lit in the correct designation and everything seemed to be in order.
With barely contained excitement, she began the chant written in the book.
