Mike opened the door to his friend's apartment.
"Rob? Are you here?"
He looked around the apartment and saw it was empty, with no trace of his friend.
"Come on, Rob. Quit fooling around. You said you had something to show me, so let's see it. I haven't got all day," said Mike impatiently.
Still no answer. Mike swore loudly and Rob had to stifle a giggle. But just as he planned Mike walked into the living room and saw the note he had left on the coffee table. Mike plopped down on the couch and read it.
"Went to the store. Be back soon. Make yourself at home....... Rob, you ass," said Mike angrily, after reading the note. He crumpled it up and tossed it to the floor.
With a sigh he grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. Now it was Rob's turn to silently curse. He had deliberately left the doll box on the floor in front of the couch so Mike would see it. But somehow he missed it. Rob bounced around in the box, tilting it until it hit Mike's ankle.
"What the hell?" said Mike, as he looked down.
He lifted up the strange box to get a better look at it. It was a Ken doll, but it looked kind of different, like it was custom made and a little more realistic. It almost looked like... well, like Rob. That must have been why Rob invited him over - to show him a doll that resembled him. That jerk knew those things creeped him out, so he was probably going to tease him with it. Mike tossed it to the other side of the couch, far away from him.
"Hey watch it!" yelled Rob.
Mike jumped up.
"What the hell? Rob is that you," he asked nervously.
It sounded a little like him, but the voice was so high and weak. Almost like ... a doll. He turned to look at the box. The plastic case was facing him and the doll looked at him with a crooked grin. Did it have that expression before? Mike couldn't remember. But he didn't like it. He didn't want to touch it, but he couldn't stand it looking at him so he turned the box away from him and towards the back of the couch. He tried watching TV, but he couldn't focus, continuously casting sideways glances at the doll box.
This is stupid, get over it, he mumbled to himself. It is just a doll.
"Hey! I can't see. I want to watch, too!" said Rob.
Mike turned and looked at the box. He was sure the noise came from there this time. He knew it had to be some kind of joke. The thing must be motion activated or maybe controlled by the light. He grabbed the box and turned it around.
The doll remained motionless, staring blankly ahead. Mike waved his hand in front of the box, but the doll remained still. Or did it? He could swear he saw the eyes blink. Nervously he opened the package and pulled the doll out. It felt warm in his hands. He thought it must have a battery inside. He turned it over and removed the shirt, looking for a battery slot. But the back was smooth. And it almost felt like the chest was moving, breathing. It couldn't be ... alive?
He quickly turned it over and pulled down the pants. It's groin was completely smooth, just like any other doll. He sighed with relief, thinking his mind was just playing tricks on him.
Then the doll's head turned and looked down at its naked body. Its smile grew bigger as it looked back up at him.
"You pervert, " squeaked Rob.
Mike screamed and dropped Rob on the floor. He scooted back on the couch as far away as possible.
"Aww. Don't you want to play with me?" asked Rob, holding out his hands in a big hug.
But Mike just screamed and screamed.
