The song of the winter goddess

added by Handle Taken 6 years ago A

Soon the seams of your shoes begin to tear and split against the strain of your increasingly larger feet. You see black claws tear through the comparatively flimsy material. Your hear beats fast in your chest as you shake off the now useless coverings to look the round paws coated in white fur there where your feet used to be. You look at your chest and see fur crawling up to peek from just under your shirt. You try to remove it to get a better look but your hands feel unwieldy. You gasp as you see black claws and fur have replaced your formerly flesh hands and fingernails. Your fingers quickly shrink into paws themselves. The fur continues growing up your chest and down your back, pausing only long enough to form a short tail just above your rear.

As the fur surrounds you, you feel your body bulking up and your legs shortening. Soon your shirt and shorts are torn and fall uselessly to the ground as your body grows in girth and in length. The fur crawls up your cheeks and the back of your head.

"No, no no no..." you finally manage to say, lifting your faces as though you meant to keep your face above the upwardly marching fur. It of course does no good as your face changes to suit your fur, your human ears being covered by fur and slowly disappearing before a new pair of round ears replace them atop your head. Your teeth lengthen as your new muzzle pushes away from your face slightly, while your nose turns cold and black. It isn't long before you stand in the snow, trying desperately to make words come from a head that isn't built for human speech. You take a step forward and lose your balance, causing your paws to touch the snow. You breath heavily, hearing the sound of a bear panting and realizing it's your voice.

After a moment of this, you hear her voice again, or perhaps you never stopped hearing it. She sounds closer now. The song she sings seems clearer, and though you can't make out every word you can tell that she is calling you to her. You turn to walk the other way, thinking that if you can find that damn door maybe you'll be human again, but the voice never seems to get any further away. In face no matter what direction you turn, you always find yourself getting closer. You finally question why you're even fighting it? If she want you to get closer, then surely you must. You walk in a direction your instincts seem most "right" and walk. Soon you're running as fast as you can until you see her.

She's simply a shape at first, vaguely human. But as you get closer you can make out more details. She wears an elegant gown of whites and blues, covered in a cloak of white fur. Her skin is pale, almost white. Her hair matches the color of her coat perfectly. So perfectly in fact that you almost thought for a moment that the cloak was just a voluminous set of locks. Her form seems slender, though it's difficult to tell for sure with the layers of clothing she wears. She smiles as you finally come before her, her song slowing to finish.

"So, you are the one who's heard my song, and responded to it of your own free will." she says and approaches you, taking your face in her hands. Somehow, even with your massive bulk, and claws that should be able to rend any human, you can't even think of attacking her. Instead you simply lower your head, causing her to bestow a light kiss atop it.

"Know this. By accepting my song you have accepted its magic. Even if some sorcery should allow you to walk in your human form for a time, it will only be a brief moment or two before you return back to your true form. The door that brought you to my realm will not open for you. Now you must choose your fate: Roam free on this wintery home of yours or serve me as my mount, my pet, my companion and my friend." she says to you.

You're torn. Freedom, the freedom to run across the icy plains of your new home, or the honor of serving this goddess of a woman. You're also dimly aware of a small, and shrinking portion of your mind that longs for the freedom of your true home and your true life, confusing as that may be.
