Luke was long gone.
Matt felt relieved. He looked around the cell, and thought this is no place for a fire hydrant. He would never encounter dogs-anthro or otherwise here. He needed to get moving. He concentrated. Slowly the bolts securing him to the concrete floor unscrewed themselves. Slowly, the fire hydrant stood up with the half unscrewed bolts around the base. Tiny metal pipe feet clanked on the concrete as he waddled toward the exit. Stupid dogman, he thought, he closed the door behind himself.
There was a creaking noise, as the hose connection cover started to self rotate. It fell off, but the chain kept it from getting away. Slowly the metal nozzle of a fire hose emerged from inside the opening. It snaked its way as if filled will water partially toward the door, and it wrapped itself around the knob and turned. Then Matt clanked slowly out the door. His tiny legs didn't give him speed, but they did help camouflage his movements. The hose retracted inside him, and the chain seemed to snap the cover back into place as it spun tightly shut. As luck would have it, Matt remembered a dog park was nearby. It had been only about ten minutes from campus but now took about three hours to reach as his reduced speed. It was raining heavily, so no one seemed to be paying attention to a fire hydrant that seemed to be moving down the sidewalk. Obviously, it was standing still and the moving rain created the illusion.
It was dark when Matt reached the dog park, and found a nice spot to attach himself in the middle of the dog park. He soon fell asleep with the gentle rain bouncing off his red metal head.
He was awakened by the early morning light, and voices.
One of them was Luke.
"So anyway, Luke, I get you're a Rottweilerman, but I don't get why you can't use the bathroom like other guys?"
"Come on, Marco, I explained already. Besides you have to take your dog Tootsie for a walk anyway, right?"
"About Tootsie, she's off limits got it?"
"Yeah, yeah, it'd be like dating your sister, I got it," Luke said.
"Not exactly, but I don't want you dating her either. My folks would disown me," said Marco with a sigh.
"Oh, look they added a fire hydrant. Nice touch," Marco said pointing at Matt.
Luke grinned and popped his doggy boner. He said, "That hydrant looks familiar."
