There was a list of massage and treatment options written out in elaborate script on what looked like heavy parchment paper hanging on the wall. Some looked interesting, while others were not. He sure did not need any king of anti-aging at 15, and he was sure not in need of slimming. Those must be for guests like his mom and dad, older and out of shape. However, he brightened when he saw the Sports Massage option. He asked the receptionist about that one.
She gave him an approving look. "Our sports massages are customized to the desired sport, though we do tend to be limited to more classic athletic activities such as running, jumping, swimming, and strength. What athletic abilities would you like developed?"
Derrick thought a moment and then said "I'd like to be a better runner, and be stronger. Jumping would be good, too. I like basketball, and I'm on the school track team. Do you provide any kind of training suggestions to keep up whatever you start here?"
The girl looked puzzled a moment, then smiled. "Oh! Whatever treatment you choose here is complete. I promise that you will get exactly what you want and it will not require additional work after you leave the spa. Depending on the extent of your treatment, we even provide relocation services."
That was confusing. Relocation services? Derrick thought about that and then asked "You mean some kind of reference? Suggested trainers and stuff?"
"Oh, that too." She looked thoughtful. "Our sports massages are intended for serious athletes only. They are often life-changing in ways you cannot comprehend. And some can be rather painful or disorienting. Perhaps something requiring less... commitment would be more appropriate."
Derrick flushed slightly, sensing that the girl was insinuating he was afraid of the massage. "Sounds great to me! Sign me up for the most thorough treatments you have for running and strength."
