Cassandra frowned at the closed door, but her ears twitched at the sound of branches scraping her window. Sporting a toothy grin, Cassandra leaped up onto her bed, then with some fiddling, managed to push the window open with her paws, and breathed deeply as a rich variety of scents entered her cat nose. Her nostrils flaring, she frowned slightly, and muttered absently, "I wish I knew what I was smelling." Before she could realize what she said, information flooded her brain. Suddenly, Cassandra could differentiate between the scent of the dog next door and the neighbor five houses down, and even the scent of the tomcat that neighbor had for a pet. Purring excitedly, Cassandra leaped for the tree branch next to her window, extending her claws, and landing lithely as the lab next door began to bark.
"Stop it, Jake!" the old man next door yelled, then walked out onto his porch and looked up. "Darn squirrels...what the...?!"
"Oops!" Cassandra yelped, aware of the situation. "I wish that no one will think my appearance is anything strange, or will even notice me unless I want them to!" The old man blinked, then turned his attention back to Jake, the lab.
"Quiet down, Jake, there's nothing there to get so worked up over!" the old man growled, and even Jake had a confused look on his face, as though he could not remember why he had gotten excited in the first place.
"It really works!" Cassandra thought gleefully, and gingerly worked her way down the tree with her new claws, then began padding down the street, her tail held high. No one even gave her a second glance, as though a puma-sized half-feline was nothing new. At first, it was a bit disconcerting, but as she wandered around, Cassandra grew more excited as she explored. She could lounge on a branch outside any house and spy on the inhabitants. She could play pranks on kids in the park and they would not even notice her. It was as though she were invisible. However, soon the novelty wore off, and Cassandra wanted more of that rush she had felt when she first used the ring. "Time to do more!" she thought eagerly.
