Luke sat on his bed alone. Two months into college, in the dorms, on a Saturday night… alone. He’d thought moving literally half a country away would let him start a new life, make new friends, ‘find himself’ as cliché as that sounded but nope, college life was just like home life; lonely.
He stood to his full lanky height of 6’4” and walked over to his ground floor window, seeing the different groups pass by, all heading to their different parties, knowing he wouldn’t fit in with a single one of them, or maybe he would at first but within a week? Back to sitting on his bed browsing on his laptop. Maybe he’d been a bit naïve when he saw the college’s tagline: “A place where everyone fits in” …. yeah right, the whole campus just seemed like one big stereotype, all the different cliques, all the parties, the sex that from what he could hear everyone bar him seemed to be having and he wanted nothing more than to be part of all of it.
Luke gazed up at the sky and saw a light shooting across the darkness. “A shooting star?... no don’t be silly, just a low flying satellite or something. I mean even if it was what’re you gonna do, make a wish? Don’t be crazy, hell you’re already talking to yourself, wishing though? That’s just too far, what would I say anyway? ‘oh I wish I just fit in with someone, anyone at this college’? Yeah right”. He turned and flopped onto his bed, turning away just before the star in the sky flashed brightly and quickly faded from the night sky.
Luke lay back on his bed and shut his eyes, unaware that his life was about to take a very different turn, but just what was he going to become on this very special night?
