That night, you and Adrian fall asleep together, his head resting upon your chest with the rest of his body in the water and you fully lying in the sand. You wake up before he does, so you carefully move his head down on the sand. Before you get ready for your day, you take a few moments to admire the sleepy merman. His soft snoring makes you smile. You could watch him forever, but you knew you had to get this done before he woke up. You write a note in the sand where it wouldn't get wet.

Went to the store to grab a few things. Be back soon

In a way, your note was telling the truth. In another way, it was also lying. What you were really doing was going to grab the machine that turned him into a merman and somehow fix it so that it could reverse Adrian's changes.
You quickly give Adrian a kiss on the cheek and are about ready to leave, when he starts to wale up.
" Hey, Lovebug," he says while rubbing the sleep from his eyes. " Where are you going? "
" Oh, 'morning, Adrian, " you say casually. " I was just running to the store. Be right back, okay? " Then you dash out of there.
" Wait, " he calls. But you keep going. You feel guilty for lying to him, but you really didn't feel like answering any possible questions (mainly, " Why do you need to go to the store? ") If your plan works, the machine will be fixed and will turn Adrian back into a human 14 year old boy. Then he could live happily ever after.
As you walk into town, everything seems to be normal (as normal as it gets when your BF is a merman.) You walk through town, getting dirty looks as you go. What's the problem with them? It could be because you're not at school when it's obviously a school day. Or maybe it's because of the scales on your legs.
You start to freak, wondering if you're becoming a mermaid. After your make-out session with a merman, it could be a possible side affect. Unsure of what's going on, you run to the beach just in case.
