Now there are some dragons tales that talk about how some local geographic feature,be it a cliff,a long stone ridge, a mountain,
a rocky island shaped like a crouching dragon
were once living breathing dragons that had once been a dragon till they were turned to stone,usually
done in by the Kingdoms champion.
The tales were correct.
Dragons had a flaw in their inner dragon metabolism/dna/magic/etc
that if exploited by their enemy ,turned them to stone.
And gargoyles instinctively knew what the exploit was.
So as the dragon turned back to look for Hawk,the gargoyle was high above the enemy,hidden in the glare of the Sun,biding its time as
it prepared to send the dragon to its stony kith and kin.
For if you looked at the landscape far below both monsters,
you could see have a stoney snout sticking out of the ground her,a frantic clawed paw throust out of a huge boulder there,
a frozen broken stone wing there and there,in a distant lake, a huge
primordial stone serpentine form sprawled out spread eagled on its writhing back frozen in that pose till the Universe itself ended,down on the lake
bed hundreds of feet below the lakes surface.
A dragon killer was this gargoyle.
The creature itself had no beating heart,and thus no soul to take.
It couldn't be killed,because it had never lived.
It was a stomne killing machine created way back before humanity had
crawled out of the sea with a fish tail.
And what triggered it were the intersecting lung lines that crisscrossed the Earth.
Now that abandoned camp just happened to be sitting on top of one
of those intersecting ley lines.
A spot currently vacant of any dragons,be they living dead or petrified.
So it was that what was essentially a dragon destroying/petrifying machine followed the target till the target was over a interest,above Hawk.
Then like a switch thrown,the stone machine locked into position like a rat trap being primed,folded up its wing and plunged
down and slammed with a deadly force into the target.
The legs snapped closed and the machine shut down.
Down below Hawk looked up in horror as Louis,in dragon form
came plunging down like a Allied Bomber that had just been shot down.
