The Premier Issue of Animalia Magazine

added by makutamon 6 years ago O

While officially the first issue of Animalia Magazine wasn't due to be released until next week, those who had succeeded at Preorder, (or in Abby and her friends' case, asked to review it), were able to get it. The magazine and its stories were presented in a certain way:

---

On the cover, there would be a couple linked to the month and/or season along with a preview of the health article that matched the theme. In January, the theme was "Breaking out of Hibernation" with a scantily-yet-decently-clad polar bear couple clearly enjoying the cold weather. The female was recognizable to Abby and her friends as Marcy, a stereotypical child genius who had been grade-skipped to 8th grade during their own 8th grade year. She had gotten saddled with the unwanted nickname "Mousy Marcy" because she was only nine years old and was not yet into puberty when she came to their class. Abby and her friends tried to get her into their group, but had problems with people wanting to get "homework extortion" from her. That was why she spent most of her free time at the Zoo with the polar bear she had formed a "bond" with, named Chilly. She was at the Zoo talking to Chilly when the Animalia Virus outbreak happened there, but Chilly, newly transformed into a nine foot titan, still felt the bond that had developed between them. They didn't know that a simple kiss would spread the virus from him to her, but as Marcy became a double-dosed polar bear, she couldn't care less. She had also noticed that the bullying and "homework extortion" abruptly stopped when she showed up at school in her new form. She was rapidly adapting to her new form, as well as a new surge of confidence.

It was also mentioned on the front cover that there was an interview with the couple about their new relationship with each other.

---

"Health and Wellness", the first part of the magazine talked about easy diet changes and exercises to help lose fat and build muscle tone. Each issue would indicate a certain muscle group; the benefits of that muscle group being strong (real life, health, and babe/hunk factor); and exercises designed to be easy to understand and perform with any weight or machine.

It also talked about common health and wellness misconceptions and the truth about them. A common feature of this was "The Adventures of Ed Meanstreets": a comic that combined Dick Tracy with a Ph.D in both medicine and history; a history of medicine/drugs and how they got to where they were today (delivered as "investigations" before the real action began); and old-time Crime Noir. While Ed Meanstreets main job was to investigate so-called "miracle cures", he would sometimes go up against notorious drug crime bosses. The first issue of Animalia Magazine had Ed Meanstreets, depicted as a raccoon Animalian, go after notorious opium "queenpin" (she was female) Madame "Poppy" Flowers, who used her brothels as fronts for her opium trafficking, while also explaining the history of the evolution of opium from blessing to curse/illegal narcotic. "Poppy" got her name because, in classic Dick Tracy style, her head resembled a poppy bulb with the flower petals replacing her hair. Ed's criminal underworld contact was an iguana Animalian named Mary Juana, symbolically representing how marijuana was losing its deep social stigma.

There was also articles that debunked many "health fads", such as diets with silly names, and what they really were. It often showed that these "fad diets" were meaningless at best, or dangerous at worst.

"Project Phoenix Profiles" were both interviews with Project Phoenix volunteers and interviews with the scientists behind it. Richard's interview with Animalia Magazine journalists was what helped spark the Animalia Mass Migration.

"Animalia Entepreneurs" was a segment that talked about the new businesses that were opening in Animalia and the people behind them. The first three interviews were with Fredrick Michaels, the man behind the new Brumination House; Ming and Ping (not their real names) the female Siamese twins from Thailand who became Siamese cats and opened a pet grooming place/beauty parlor for Animalians now called Siam Shine; and E.J. Anderson, who began the trolley service that ferried reptile and amphibian Animalians between the Brumation House and their apartments.

"The Past, Present, and Future" what was effectively a monthly newspaper combined with a Times Magazine and a National Geographic Magazine. "The Past" talked about human-animal hybrids that were mentioned in early human society; "The Present" talked about news that either originated in Animalia, or concerned Animalia; "The Future" talked about future projects in Animalia, from construction projects to new events/expositions.

Scattered throughout the Magazine were website addresses that would allow access to certain Animalian Pornographic content on the main Animalian website, but to actually access the content, a premium account was required. A new program developed by criminal justice students in Nevada allowed Animalia to check the identity of someone who wanted to purchase a premium account by: Checking the full name (required for "billing purposes", the credit card number used, and any records on such a name, and allowing Animalia to deny the granting of a premium account due to being underage, having a stolen identity, or a criminal record. If an identity was identified as stolen, for example, the authorities would be notified. Unfortunately, the program still couldn't identify people with names/identities such as ih8Ulibs. This was a great way to keep the pornographic content out of the hands of minors.

This was, in a way, a good idea to get Animalia out to larger populations, but acceptance was still somewhat difficult to gain for Animalia, if somewhat lessened by the release of Animalia Magazine.
