With Tachibana no Akane looking after Harold and Virginia McCoy and Alice Decrux heading for jail, Samantha Twist and Police Chief O'Hara decided to take a visit to the District Attorney's office. After greeting the two and inviting them into his office, he asked the reason for their visit. The moment they mentioned Alice Decrux's name, he groaned as he rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"I remember that case," the DA started. "It was about 7 or 8 years ago, and I thought we had her on Statute 1A. The jury didn't buy our story on her intent, and bought that the poor guy she changed was in an accident. So, tell me, why are we chasing her again?"
"Well, here's the thing," Samantha started, "We think there may be a Statute 1A charge here. Here are the facts. Harold Jenkins, the normal that got changed, was with one Virginia McCoy and Dean Myers on his front lawn. Harold says that he invited Ms. McCoy into his home when Alice Decrux came up to them and accused both her and Mr. Myers of conspiring against her. She then assaulted Ms. McCoy, and the two changed into their fursonas and started fighting each other. Mr. Jenkins tried to stop the two from fighting when he got clawed."
"By Ms. McCoy, I assume," the DA responded, "judging by the fact that he is now a weretiger."
"Correct," Chief O'Hara nodded, "We have both Ms. McCoy and Ms. Decrux under arrest for disturbing the peace and changing in daylight without cause. Both crimes are misdemeanors."
"Meaning that they could both be out in hours if not days," the DA said finishing the thought. He sighed and thought for a minute. "And why do you want me to prosecute Ms. Decrux? From what you told me, it sounds like Ms. McCoy should be prosecuted, assuming that she did this on purpose."
"From what we can gather," Samantha answered, "it does sound like an accident. Mr. Jenkins just happened to get too close to a couple of weres fighting, and got swiped in the process. While we can't necessarily rule out that Ms. McCoy did do it on purpose, so far from our interviews, she and Mr. Jenkins were starting to have a relationship for each other, at least that how it looked from her point of view. Ms. Decrux was also seeking to have a relationship with him, although, Mr. Myers was warning Mr. Jenkins about her. I believe that Mr. Jenkins had expressed his desire to have nothing to do with her before the fight."
"Giving Ms. Decrux motive," the DA said quietly, thinking to himself. He sighed and said, "To prove a Statute 1A charge, it's not enough for an attempt to have occurred, but it also required intent. If I'm going to go after Ms. Decrux, I need strong evidence to build a case against her. She slipped past us before, and if we don't have a strong case, she'll do it again." He turned to Chief O'Hara and said, "Chief, I want your best men on it. While she's in jail, you can investigate her to the fullest extent. I'll need to prove both that she attempted to turn Mr. Jenkins and that she intended to turn Mr. Jenkins. Find every bit of evidence you can find on her."
"I understand," Chief O'Hara responded, "I have a couple of detectives in mind that can do the job."
"Good," the DA said in response, "And leave no stone unturned. I don't want her getting away from us this time."
"I agree," Samantha said, "She's been giving us weres a bad name for years now. It's high time she paid a price for her actions."
With that said, the DA shook hands with the Police Chief and Samantha Twist before the two left his office. After the two left, the DA sat back down in his chair and looked out the window. He had hoped that this would be his chance to finally put Ms. Decrux in bars for a long time and find justice for the men that she changed.
MEANWHILE...
