Police Chief O'Hara storms back into the police station and towards his office. While doing so, he barks out, "Miles! Lukasky! My office! Now!" The two men looked at each other before getting up from their desks and following their boss to his office. Police Chief O'Hara slammed the door and then paced behind his desk. He was very agitated.
"First of all, I want to say that you men did a fine job with that Yvette Smith case. Last I heard, she was still in the hospital awaiting treatment before they continue her trial." He took a breath before continuing. "Do you remember the Decrux case several years ago?"
"Decrux?" Denny Miles asked as he thought for a moment. "As in Alice Decrux? The wereraccoon that we charged with a Statute 1A crime several years ago and got away?"
"Yeah, that one," O'Hara replied. "Well, she's involved in another potential Statute 1A crime. Harold Jenkins, a new resident of our town who moved in a few days ago, was changed to a weretiger just this evening. So far the facts are that Virginia McCoy, a weretiger, accidently scratched Jenkins while she and Alice Decrux were fighting each other. Jenkins apparently tried to stop them, but got clawed in the process."
Jensen Lukasky thought for a moment and asked, "Why do we think this is a Statute 1A case?"
"Because of Decrux," O'Hara responded. "We know that Decrux has a long history of changing men and taking advantage of them. The DA wants her behind bars, but he wants a strong case against her first. That's where you two come in. I told the DA that I would put my best men on the case, and that's you two come in. I want every aspect of this case investigated. I want every fact, every lead, every turn and curve followed. I don't care where your investigation leads, but if there's a crime here, I want a case so tight that not even Decrux can slip through."
The two detectives looked at each other before Miles turned to his boss and said, "You got it, boss. Where should we start?"
Chief O'Hara sat down at his desk before continuing. "We have both McCoy and Decrux in jail right now on charges of disturbing the peace and changing in daylight without cause. Meyers is also in jail for changing in daylight, although he should be walking free. Jenkins is currently at the hospital, and assuming that nothing went wrong, should be walking out shortly. I'd suggest you start with asking questions from those people."
"Right," Miles said as he got up. "Let's go, partner. We've got work to do." With that said, the two men walked out to start their investigation of the case.
