James looked in shock at the beast staring back at him in the mirror and wondered if it could really be him. Laying on it's stomach on a pile of the clothes he had been wearing moments ago was a dangerous looking reptile, an alligator for sure. He lifted himself up and crawled forward towards his reflection. This was definitely real - Kayla really was a witch and had somehow transformed him into this oversized lizard.
Despite everything, James remained remarkably calm. Perhaps it was the effect of Kayla's magic, his shock and disbelief at what had just happened or a simple realisation there was nothing he could do but hope his new companion didn't leave him like this.
Kayla crouched next to James, stroking his back and looking at him with pride. He couldn't help but find the situation strangely calming.
"Wow, I didn't think that would actually work" she smiled "either I'm more powerful than I thought or you are unusually susceptible to magic. I've never transformed a human into an animal before. Wait until I show you to my father!"
James had no way of arguing, he knew attacking a witch wasn't a smart option but also that he couldn't stay like this.
"Hmm, I don't think he will be back for a while" James wasn't sure if she was speaking for his benefit or thinking out loud. Did she even realise he could still understand her?
"How shall we amuse ourselves until he arrives?"
