As I was trying to figure out how to best figure out the mystery of the new store, I found myself wandering around Main Street and wondering what my approach should be.
Around lunch time, I still hadn't come up with any good ideas. And I was getting kind of hungry. Fortunately a few food trucks had started to appear in the areas near Funko's. The one bad thing you couldn't say about the popularity of the store was that it was helping bring business to that area of the town. So I decided to grab something quick and maybe head home, I sure hadn't come up with any better ideas.
"Hey there! How's it going?" I suddenly heard a girl's voice behind me and turned around to see my best friend Allison walking up beside of me.
"Hey Allison! What are you doing over here?" I asked.
It was odd to see her out and about. She was a cute girl but she preferred to keep to herself and was fairly brainy. We met our first year of middle school in the library looking up some fantasy books. Nerdy? Yeah a little bit but we had enjoyed trading books and stories we found online and our friendship had grown from there.
"Nothing much, I heard from some of the foodie websites that there was a great taco truck over here so I wanted to grab something for lunch. How about you? Did you feel the allure of the new cuisine in town?" she asked me.
I didn't really have a great response ready so I blurted out what I was really doing, "You could say that, I was also thinking about that new store Funko's that just opened up around the corner. It's like it came out of nowhere one day. Have you read anything online about them?"
"Nope, although I was thinking about stopping in there. Look what happened on my way over here!" as she motioned down to her feet. I noticed immediately that she had made a hasty repair of her flip flops...which wasn't saying much. The heel of her right flip flop was hanging on just barely thanks to some duck tape she had procured from who-knows-where. Honestly it seemed like the perfect lead-in to my investigation.
"Cool! I wanted to check it out anyway, let's go see if they have anything for you!"
As we turned the corner and saw the masses of men and boys outside the store I wondered if they even owned any girl's shoes. I hadn't seen many girls around and the few I had seen were mainly with sons or boyfriends. I guess we'd find out inside.
