Mary decided to click on the links and check out the online Chronivac forums on animal transformation to see how other people used the machine. She found that the main forum was currently involved in a massive flame war over going domestic over going wild. Wild supporters argued that the experience was more authentic, while domesticateds claimed that most wild animals, living in preserves or scavenging garbage cans, were really semi-domesticated anyway, and nothing could match the experience of the human-animal bond from the point of view of the animal. People who had lived the life of a domesticated dog were particularly adamant on that point, and every once in a while one would announce that he or she was leaving the thread, and the life of a human being, permanently.
The real action was in the subfora. The sex and romance subforum (supposedly restricted to 18 or above, but Mary cracked it easily) was full of people wanting to form pairbonds within animal species. Interestingly, about a third of the guys wanted to be female animals, and about a fifth of the women who posted wanted to be male. One woman was putting together a harem of men and women who wanted to be female cats for her future career as a tomcat. She referred to her future lovers as "litter-bearers."
But unquestionably the weirdest section of the entire site was simply labelled Predator/Prey. This is where people who wanted to take the experience of being prey animals to the fullest made their appointments with predators. Mary was mesmerized by one man's detailed fantasy of being a timid female rabbit, chased down, torn to pieces and devoured by a ravening wolf. Mary knew the Chronivac couldn't bring back the dead, so the man was apparently committed enough to his fantasy to give up his life for it. Several wolves were already showing interest.
