Harauphar stood up and from the corner of the room grabbed a small cage used for primarily rodents or mices. Inside the cage was a small plant, several green leaves growing delicately in the darkness of the poorly lit room.
"This is your test. As a kitsune you have an natural affinity towards fel magic, but even then, you'll need much practice before you'll be able to properly use it." Master Harauphar said plaintively.
You nod at Harauphar's words and for a brief moment that felt like hours you stare at the plant, not sure what you're supposed to be doing. Did Harauphar expect you to do something?
"I'm sorry Master, I don't follow, what exactly I am supposed to do?" You asked with a confused look on your face.
"Fel magic like every magical energy type can be manipulated in different way, each way a magical energy can be manipulated is called an "art". For example, demonic magic can be used to channel flame magic or blood magic. In the same way fel magic has its own arts. Obviously magical energy types can be combined in some ways but for now we will stick to fel energy."
Harauphar explained in his typical cold but intelligent fashion.
By now you had learned that Harauphar was in a pleasant mood, not bad but not good. From what you've seen, it takes a lot for Harauphar to show actual human emotion.
"Since this is your first official lesson in magic, we will simply have you try to conjure fel energy and project it into the plant. From there we will examine what type of magical art you used on the plant and then go from there." Master Harauphar continued.
"I understand, so if the goal as of now is to simply channel and project fel energy, then will there ever be a time for me to explore the other types of magic energy?" You asked.
You were fairly certain you wanted to specialize in the art soul manipulation but you were also curious about the other types of magic out there. After all, if all goes well, you'll become immortal and Harauphar will die of natural causes, so why not explore other magical options as well?
"In time Wraith, but for now we will stick to fel magic, the magic I will most often require you to use, especially when the time for the Ritual has come, however once I personally determine that your skill in fel magic is atleast adequate for me to move forward then I will personally aid you in learning about the other energy types." Master Harauphar replied.
"Very well Master, I look forward to those time but will focus on the task at hand." You say, nodding.
"Now Wraith, channel the power of your very soul and use it, manipulate it and twist it to fuel your purpose."
You do just that, closing your eyes you strain heavily as you try to bring forth your magical might. At first nothing happens, but then slowly, you feel the dark energy begin to trickle inside you. At first it was mere droplets of a strange energy you've never felt before. It was alien and strange, like a flower in a field of rocks. As you begin to collect it at an increased rate, your very soul seems to contort itself in ways you've never felt possible and the very life inside you seems to drain away to somewhere else.
Your emerald eyes begin to ominously glow green and a ball of fellish green flame begins to expand within your move, forcing you to open as far you can. Once the size of a basketball, you stop feeding it your energy, worried that if you keep fueling the dark flames, they would consume you. Then in a burst of magic, you force it out of your mouth, watching as it fly horizontally through the air, melting through the metal bars of the cage and hitting the plant directly exploding into a small cluster of tiny green wisps that slowly fall to the ground until disappearing completely.
At first you saw no immediate change on the plant but then....
