"Yeah, alright!" shouted a female voice as it whizzed past just feet above them. Carrie took cover between two parked cars, but that did nothing to hide the obvious force field bubble around them.
"What was that?" she whispered to Todd.
"I don't know," he replied as he cowered behind his screen. "All I saw was some kind of rainbow colored thing streak by."
"Will the force field keep it away?"
"No," Todd said. "The field just stops us from being affected by the energy here. Anything physical could still reach us."
"Woo hoo!" the voice cried again, and this time it slowed down in front of them. Then, they got a good look at it.
"It's a little horse," said Carrie.
"It's got wings," said Todd.
"It's a flying blue horse with a rainbow mane."
The little horse flapped its wings and looked its body over. "This is definitely a thousand percent cooler!" it declared and took off at high speed again deeper into the haze, laughing gleefully as it disappeared from sight.
"So," Carrie said. "Was that someone transformed into a cartoon character in real life?"
"It had to be a person at some time," Todd said. "The energy can't create new thinking beings, just alter their bodies or their thinking."
"That poor little girl," said Carrie as she stood up.
"Or guy," Todd corrected her. "There's that one cartoon with all of those grown up guy fans."
"Huh," Carrie said. "Weird, but who am I to judge?"
Off in the haze, the Pegasus that had once been a guy named, Tom, cheered again as she flew off into her dream come true.
