The island of Santa Garcia is a tiny (fictional) island in the pacific off the coast of South America. It was colonized by Portuguese merchants as a trade outpost. Since the construction of the Panama Canal, its proximity has caused it to become a popular vacation spot and tourist destination.
The newly elected president, Aurora Amerigo de Salazar, was the widow of the late president. She was very popular while her husband was in office, and when he died in a tragic accident, she gained almost unanimous support from the sympathetic populous. When he died, her husband had left her pregnant with twins, but he had never gotten the chance to know for certain. Already under extreme strain from the loss of her husband, having to manage an entire island of nearly two thousand people, and being 6 months pregnant, the absolute LAST thing that she needed was to be the only adult on an entire island of twelve year old children. And yet, one fateful day, this impossibly unlikely event came to pass.
But there was another problem. How was she going to be able clothe over a thousand twelve year olds? During a major crisis such as this, it was doubtful that the world would be concerned with keeping trade open to a single island. They would just have to wear their old clothes.
And then came the interviews. About a dozen journalists and local news reporters crowded around her, none of which were taller than chest height. "President Salazar, what is your opinion on the current crisis?" "Madam President, do you have anything to say to the people? Any words of encouragement?" "President Salazar, do you have any explanation as to why you happened to be the only person on the island unaffected?" The bombardment of questions became suffocating, and she excused herself, locking herself in her room. Hit with a wave of hormones, she buried her face in the pillow and cried.
