Sarah and Malice were very eager for their parents to get home. They had just gone in for Julia's first ultrasound and they were very eager to hear about how their new baby brother/sister was developing. But when their parents got home, they had even more surprising news than they expected.
"Twins?!" said Sarah with surprise, "I'm going to have twin sisters?"
"We don't know if they'll be sisters or brothers," said her dad, "We don't even know if they'll be the same sex. It's going to be a few more weeks until we do know."
"Only a few more weeks?" asked Malice, sounding a little disappointed.
"Your siblings are developing faster than a human, but not that fast," said her adoptive mother, "Dr. Clark theorizes that Animalian fetuses take at least six months to develop or nine at the most."
"So...does that mean you're halfway there by now?" asked Malice.
"Almost," said Julia.
"I'm still taking in that you'll be having twins," said Sarah.
"Believe me, your mother is getting off easy," said Thomas, "Mayor Clara was also getting her ultrasound and she's apparently expecting double what your mother has."
Sarah just gaped before saying, "Wow, just...wow."
"That sounds like it would be very uncomfortable," said Malice.
"Hopefully, Clara will be able to give birth without complications," said Thomas, "Though I'm not sure if they'll be premature or not."
"Premature?" asked Sarah with worry.
"Some animals are born blind and deaf before their senses develop," said Julia, "We don't know if it will apply to my puppies or not. We'll just have to see."
Then Thomas took a more serious tone and said, "Now, girls, I want you to take a lesson from this."
"What's that?" asked Malice.
"To not let yourself get pregnant until you're ready. Your mother is expecting a litter of two but she could be expecting quadruplets as well. The same problem could also apply to you," said Thomas.
"It's not that we don't want you to love your mates," said Julia, "Just don't try to have puppies until you've graduated and are able to afford to care for them."
"Speaking of affording, I suppose we'll need to double up the baby stuff," said Sarah.
"Yes, but there will still be time," said Julia, rubbing her growing belly.
Despite the surprise of getting twice as many siblings as she was expecting, Sarah was pretty excited. She had always wanted a little brother or sister and now she was going to get two.
