That's the name quietly muttered by the girl sitting across from him: looking as frail and thin as a wire, with light skin and frayed sandy blonde hair formed into a bun. Her attire showed little of her figure, consisting of a brown blouse covered by a grey vest buttoned up with a cross; the lower half was a skirt that went down past her knees paired with knee socks and mocassins.
The two quietly starred at eachother as they both slowly ate at their food. Colin attempted to start a conversation.
"So.... uh.... like your outfit."
"Hmmm? Oh, yes, this is what I usually wear to church. I was studying to become a preacher." Mary Anne explained.
"Are you perchance Christian?"
"Yeah, but not any particular denomination. My mother always taught me that Jesus was the savoir and God was... well, God. " Colin said.
Mary Anne nodded as she took another bite of mashed potatoes.
The dinner went on like this for about an hour before Mary Anne had finally finished her food. Her tired, hazel eyes glanced over at the wife of Jack as she collected their plates. She and Colin left earlier than everyone else, as they headed for a bedroom with a stocked bookshelf and a queen sized bed. After they got settled in, Colin decided to join Mary Anne in prayer.
"Father, who art in heaven, give us the strength to persevere though these.. trying times. May you show us a righteous path and guide us in making our decisions in this place."
"Amen." Colin said as he rolled on his side and fell asleep.
