Matt didn't need to even think about the offer. "No," he said. "I'd better stay around here. Maybe we can get together another time."
Steve smiled, trying to not look disappointed. Then, he had an idea. He went over to Paul's dresser and found a scrap of paper. After some scribbling, he walked over to Matt. "Here's my number," he said. "Call me any time."
Matt nodded, wanting to get rid of Steve at this point. Not because he didn't like the man, but because he wanted to get his hands back on the wand! Taking the piece of paper, he went over to his clothes on the floor as Steve left and stuffed the scrap in one of his pockets.
With Steve gone, Matt put his plan into action. He quickly gathered up his clothes and shoes and buried them in Paul's closet. Then, he turned out the lights and slid his small body under Paul's bed to wait for the wand's return.

It was a long, small wait. About 2 hours after Steve left, Matt started wondering if this was such a good idea. He was getting hungry, and bored. He could hear water running in the house; it was clear that other people were around, but Mr. DeSoto hadn't come back with the wand. As he thought seriously about getting out from under the bed, he started to feel small again.
He looked around, but there was no one else in the room. Slowly but surely, the door was receeding from his vantage point. He was definitely shrinking again. Then he realized: Steve must have sprung himself another boner.
