The dark night is freezing cold on the faces of the unfortunate group of friends. You, Jack, and a group of friends, Dylan, Al, and Kate, had recently decided to go on a long road trip, but somewhere on your way, some unseen force had decided to completely ruin your drive. First, the convertible you were driving in lost its roof, something that shouldn't have happened and probably never would happen again. When the your group finally arrived at the hotel Al had booked a room in for you guys, his reservation wasn't listed and all the rooms were full. At that point, you had simply decided to drive on through the night.
Eventually, the your car passed by a lighted house, which seemed too old to have electric lighting, and a sign that said, "Visitors Welcome--Please Use Side House". Dylan, who was driving and was soon to fall asleep, pulls over at the first sight of the sign and drives up the driveway. There is a small cabin at the side of the house, so he simply pulls over and gets everyone out of the car.
Walking inside, the lights inside the cabin, which seemed as old as the manor, automatically turn on and fill the room with a bright yellow light. Four beds are laid out on the floor, and you are so exhausted from the drive that you simply collapse on the bed closest to you.
In the morning, only Kate is awake before you. You had been hoping that this trip might help you get a bit closer to Kate, but so far, there has been no chance of that. What did you have that she would want? Kate was beautiful, 5'2", blonde, wavy hair, average breasts but a curvy waste that pronounced them, and was quite nice to all the guys at the school. Compared to all the guys at your school, you have nothing.
You were relatively athletic, but that was basically everything special about you. 5'10", brown hair, no facial hair anywhere, nothing that other guys didn't have. You don't have a chance.
"Hey, Jack, come look at this. It's really weird," Kate says, shaking you out of your thoughts. You walk over to her, where Kate is looking intently at her phone. "Yeah?" you reply, words coming slowly to you in the cold of the morning.
Kate looks at you, bewildered. "This place isn't on the maps, but it's obviously been here for a while. Look how old it is!"
"Yeah, that is a little odd," you replied. Then you notice something. "Plus, last night, the lights came on, right? Where are the light bulbs?"
"Okay, I should have noticed that. You know what, after everybody else is up, we should go explore the manor, see what we can find," Kate said, deciding that if anyone else didn't come with her, she will explore alone.
Dylan wakes up at the sound of your voices, which had been getting louder as they conversed. "What's this about exploring? I'm in, but first, what's for breakfast?"
Two hours later, you and your group of friends were standing in the doorway of a hall. Stretching in front of you was a vast hallway, a set of doors on the left wall and the right wall, and a staircase leading up. There were no windows or electric lighting, but you could see perfectly all the way down the hall. No other doors were in sight.
Al looks around, thinking. "I think we should split up--me and Dylan in one group, and Jack and Kate in the other. Everyone good with that?" Nobody disagrees. "I kinda want to go right--I feel like there's something in that room. Jack, where do you want to go with Kate?"
