That morning after Harold returned from driving Melissa to school, he returned to his work to prepare for classes coming up in the winter semester. He was soon interrupted by a knock on the door. Harold opened the door to see two detectives standing in front of it.
"Detectives!" he exclaimed, recognizing them from last time. "What brings you here?"
Detective Lukasky said, "Mr. Jenkins, we've got a couple of questions for you, and we'd like to update you on your case. Do you have a few moments that we can talk?" Harold nodded his head and motioned for the two detectives to enter his house. The three of them sat down in the living room to continue their conversation.
Harold, as he sat down, asked, "So, how can I help?"
Detective Lukasky pulled out his notebook and asked, "Do you remember the package that was sent to your house the day of the incident?"
"Ah, yes," Harold said as he nodded his head. "I remember. Didn't like the stuff, so I sent it off."
"Right," said Detective Miles, "And do you remember if there was a note with the package?"
Harold paused for a moment before responding, "Not that I'm aware of. I didn't open the package before sending it away, so I can't remember if there was or not."
"Makes sense," Detective Miles mused. "We should probably ask the delivery man again to see if he remembers anything."
"If I may ask," Harold said, "What's so important about that package?"
The two detectives looked at each other and then Detective Lukasky said, "We were able to get a sample of the peanut brittle, and it turns out that it was laced by a drug. It's a powerful aphrodisiac and for normals it would have made you very suggestible, to say the least. For weres, the effect would have been even more profound."
Harold growled when he heard this and after a moment, asked, "And if I had eaten that peanut brittle..."
"Let's just say that you would have a very hard time saying no," Detective Lukasky said. "Let's just say at this moment, this is a line of investigation that we're pursuing now."
"I see," Harold said as he relaxed his hand on the seat he was sitting on. "Anything else?"
The two detectives looked at each other and Detective Miles said, "We don't think that Ms. McCoy is a suspect. While it was her that scratched you, at best, it was an accident that happened in the heat of a fight. There are some questions we want answered before we close this case, but we don't think Virginia is responsible for this."
"So, does this mean?" Harold asked.
Detective Lukasky simply said, "She's free to do what she wants."
Harold broke out in a grin as he struggled to contain himself. "That is good news," he said rather slowly.
"Well," Detective Miles said, "That's all we have for now. If there's anything else, please give us a call."
"I will," Harold replied, "and thank you for coming by." Harold led the two detectives to the door and escorted them out of the house. He took a moment to shake both of their hands before closing the door behind him. The big grin grew even bigger as he pondered what he should do next. His instincts told him that he should rush over to Virginia's place and show her how much he loved her. But he knew he had to get some work done before he could do that. He sighed for a moment and went to his study to finish a few things. There'll be time later for some fun afterward.
