Just as Matt was about to fiddle some more with the program, she was startled to hear her cell phone go off. Sprinting back to the bedroom, she found her cell phone by her bed, but froze just as she picked it up. What would the caller think to hear some strange woman on the other end of the line? Should she try to fake her original voice? Maybe claim she had a cold? Just as Matt began to panic again, she realized that the tone was that of her cell alarm, and not an actual caller.
"Shit!" Matt cursed to herself. It was nearly time for her to leave for work! Should she call in sick? But it was really late for that, and her supervisor would be annoyed. Worried, Matt looked up to see herself in the dresser mirror. As she stared blankly at herself, it reminded her of the photographs, and she realized something. Her entire history had changed, so maybe everyone now thought her female form was her real form. If that was true, she could just go to work as she was and no one would know better. Deciding to take a risk, Matt pulled on her normal work outfit - folding the pants around the bottom, since they were now too long - grabbed her wallet and keys, and left for work.
Nervously, Matt approached the front cashier at the university bookstore. Matt had worked there as a student employee for a year now, so most employees knew her, or at least the old her.
"Uh, hi..." Matt trailed off.
"Hey, Matt!" Josie grinned as she finished counting out her till. "You made it! I thought you had slept in again!"
"Oh...no, just didn't feel well last night, but I'm okay now, I think..." Matt stuttered, feeling strange that no one but her noticed the change.
"I can't wait until classes start, then this mad rush for course books will die down," Josie grumped. "..twenty, twenty-one! Okay, I'm off!"
Matt quickly signed in and fell into the rhythm of her job, although as she began stocking books, the odd swaying of her new chest alerted her to another problem: she had no bra. Since her wardrobe remained the same, nothing was female-friendly, and she hadn't throught about it until just at that moment. Interestingly enough, no one else seemed to commentate on it either. Matt couldn't remember if any of her new photos indicated whether she ever wore a bra. Lost in her thoughts, Matt didn't even notice her name being called.
"Hey man, you listening? Earth to Matt!" a deep voice called from behind her.
"Wha? Oh, hey Noel...what's up?" Matt turned around to see one of her friends, a young man who had been in her art classes since freshman year. She was disconcerted to have to look up at her friend, one who had always been shorter than her. Although he didn't have a muscly frame, Noel had always been rather wiry, and had a bookish air due to his glasses. The two had often hung out, having many interests in common.
"You okay, man? You were kinda spaced out there," Noel asked, concerned.
"Oh, no, it's nothing," Matt replied, bewildered by how normally Noel was treating her, as though she were still the same guy. It almost made her wonder if it were all in her head, and she was still a guy to everyone else, even though her swaying chest had her convinced otherwise.
"Hey, a bunch of us are getting together later to hang out. Want in?" Noel asked expectantly.
