As the sun began to shine on the skyscrapers of Seattle Washington to herald the Tuesday after Labor Day that year, one white furred weretiger stirred from his slumber.
After taking care of nature's call and other morning necessities, Kai Wu Wang walked into the covert surveillance room he and his grandson Far Houjin had established to keep an on Jack and Kenya Crawford.
"How goes it this morning?" Kai asked his grandson.
"Pretty boring so far," admitted the other white furred weretiger. They had maintained this suite in secret, originally so they would have a place to stay in Seattle without attracting attention, since the two of them remained in their fursonas 24/7 instead of resuming their human forms to blend in with the rest of the world. But since the place also had a good view of Jack Crawford's penthouse suite, they now also used it to keep an eye on the enemy of Benton Knight, Moon Lake, and possibly all of were society as well.
"Crawford's mate is a feisty one," commented Far, as the cordless headphones he was wearing allowed him to walk over to check the computer monitors they had set up. "I've lost count of the number of times they've had sex since we reestablished our observance of them. Yet neither have yet to make a phone call or use a computer, and apparently they are sleeping in this morning."
"It is only a little after 6," observed Kai. "Not everyone is an early riser like we are."
"True. I did overhear one interesting conversation," continued Far. "Apparently the lady might not be able to bear cubs. Yet, because of the poor sound quality, I am uncertain whether one of the Crawfords might have been talking in their sleep or if that revelation was part of an actual conversation."
"Interesting," was all Kai said on the subject. "But for now, all we can do is keep an eye on them and hope Jack Crawford doesn't carry out his threat to expose were society to the world."
MEANWHILE, BACK IN MOON LAKE...
Despite having to work an extra long shift at the local diner yesterday, Emily Walker was out of bed and getting ready for her day job at Moon Lake General Hospital.
Dressed, but in need of a strong cup of coffee to help her wake up, Emily started staggering to the kitchen to fix breakfast for her and her son Brian, who would be starting his Sophomore year at Moon Lake High School today, when she heard something coming from his room that made her stop in mid-step.
"Patricia Monet, I love you with all my heart and soul. Will you please do me the honor of becoming my bride and sharing the rest of your life with me?"
Emily gasped in shock! Even if his feelings are true, Brian's too young! she thought, as bitter memories of her brief marriage to her son's father raced through her mind.
Worried, and heedless of the consequences, Emily opened the door to her son's bedroom and got another shock.
Her son was still in bed, all alone and sound asleep!
There was a smile on his face as the were-otter was hugging one of his spare pillows. "Thank you darling! You make me so happy!" he muttered.
Knowing that her son's alarm would go off within a few minutes so he could get ready for the new school day and year, and with no idea what (if anything) to do in this situation, Emily Walker closed Brian's bedroom door and continued on to the kitchen, now not needing that cup of coffee as much as she did.
