Harold and Virginia were lying next to each other, enjoying each other's company. It was at that point that Harold's stomach started to growl. They both paused to look at each other and laughed. "I guess I'm a little hungry," Harold said rather sheepishly.
Virginia smiled and said, "Well, we have been going at it all afternoon. I suppose we could go catch dinner. Literally." Virginia stood up and stretched, giving Harold a full view of her figure, something that he appreciated.
"Oh?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He got up from the ground and joined Virginia.
She smiled and said, "Follow me." She then dashed into the woods with Harold following after her. The scent of deer filled his nose and his mouth started to water. It wasn't long before the two of them came across a buck in a clearing.
Virginia motioned for Harold to stop and she came close to him to speak softly. "I'm going to head right and chase the buck towards you. When it comes close, jump on it and kill it." Harold nodded as he moved silently towards the left. Virginia moved off to the right to be downwind of the buck. She then jumped out of the bush with a loud roar, startling the buck and causing it to dash away towards Harold. Virginia chased the buck towards Harold until it got close enough for Harold to jump on its back. The buck tried to get Harold off, but he dug in with his claws, and he was able to sink his fangs into the buck's neck. The buck struggled to kick Harold off, but it soon stopped struggling as its life faded. Once the buck stopped moving, Harold let go.
Harold paused as he examined the blood on his paws and claws. He had never taken a life of an animal before, and was a little concerned about what he had done. But on the other hand, there was a bit of a rush with the hunt and kill. Virginia came up from behind and said, "Nicely done." She then noticed Harold's expression and said, "What you did was purely natural, and it's a way of life here in Moon Lake. And don't worry, we have a breeding program so that the deer population doesn't go extinct here with us around."
"Sorry," he said as he continued to examine his paws. "It's just...I've never taken a life before of any animal. I've never gone hunting or anything like that."
Virginia nodded understandably and said, "I was the same way when I was changed and did my first hunt. It was a bit...surreal for me to kill something. But something that I've learned that it's part of the natural order of things. Yes, we kill these deer, but we also take care of them. We don't waste any part of the deer, we clean up after ourselves, and we make sure that the deer population doesn't get too low." She put a paw on Harold's shoulder. "We may be hunters and killers, but that doesn't make us anything less because we take care of the things we hunt and kill. We're aware of our impact and see the larger picture."
He sighed and said, "I suppose you're right. So, what do we do with this buck?"
"We clean it and eat it, of course. Anything we don't eat we can store for later or give to the local diner so that they have meat to eat as well." Virginia started to tug at the now dead buck and said, "Now help me move this thing back to my place so we can enjoy our meal together." Harold smiled as he picked up the other half, and the two of them went back to the house to enjoy their feast.
