Tales of the Arcane: Confrontation

Author note:
Definitely not one of my better works. Was kind of rushed due to lack of energy and being distracted. Still, Rowan and Leopold finally meet!

December 28, 696

"Master." You started, your hand in a bowl full of dough. "Can you pass me the flour? The dough is very wet."

"Gannoth, you have telekinetic abilities." Rowan smiled, continuing to knead his dough. "You can get it yourself."

"Sometimes, I forget about magic." You laughed.

"You are a handful sometimes Gannoth." Rowan chuckled, watching the bag of flour float across his field of vision. "I never realized making bread was so difficult!"

"My mother used to do it with me." You started, before tearing up slightly. "I really miss her. Why is the Kevin in me so strong right now? It was non-existent for so long!"

"It's because of our research. We've been trying to craft technologies similar to those from your old plane, and have succeeded in doing so for some." Rowan explained. "That 'computer' thing you told me about is fascinating though."

"Maybe when we're even stronger, we can visit my plane and I can show you all of this stuff!" You smiled.

"Soon we'll be able to traverse the planes with ease." Rowan smiled. "Until then, I can't truly call myself a God."

"Plus, Gods don't usually bake bread with their familiar." You laughed. "Anyway, once the dough is kneaded enough..."

"Sire!" A guard yelled, interrupting your instructions. "There is someone at the gate!"

"Can you tell them I'm busy." Rowan responded. "I can meet them tomorrow."

"Um..." The guard started. "They said that if you don't come out in 5 minutes, that he'll break the gate down. When I asked him who he was, he said that he was the Hero of Light, or something like that."

"That could be a slight problem." You started. "We need to let the dough rise, and you can't do that when dealing with someone like him."

"The Hero of Light." Rowan sighed. "This might be a real problem. Gannoth, do whatever you need to do to let the dough rise and meet me at the front gate."

"Of course, Master." You nodded, getting a couple of wet towels and putting it over the bread. (This is actually what you are supposed to do with bread.) As soon as the bread was resting, you sprinted down the hallway. You caught up with your Master, who was right by the door. As you opened it, you felt a strong breeze blow through your hair. Rowan's long, blond locks were flowing beautifully in the wind. As the brightness of the light faded, you saw the gate in front of you. Rowan waved his hand, lowering the gate. Once it was down, you saw two figures. One of them was an angel, and the other looked like a normal 18 year old kid. He looked like a cross between you and Rowan. Young and athletic with long, blond hair. On his side was a thin scabbard for a sword unlike any you've ever seen. It looked almost curved!

"Hello, Hero of Light." Rowan said calmly. "What brings you to my castle?"

"You know exactly why I am here." Leopold answered. "I'm here to fulfill my destiny and slay you."

"Leopold, I really don't think you are ready for this." Gabriel stated. "The magical auras surrounding them are monstrously strong, and I know they are masking most of it."

"No, please Leopold." Rowan smiled. "I've heard much about you. You were once a simple farm boy from Brus, before being entangled in this prophecy. Your father was killed by me in an attack Brus made on me. May I just say that I am dreadfully sorry for that. Since then, I've tried to turn over a new leaf. I've started to rule Kelper, and have garnered the trust of the people. They love me! And I love them. Ask any citizen of Kelper what they think of me and what I've done for Kelper, and you'll understand that I am not the evil murderer I used to be."

"That doesn't change the fact that you committed those atrocities!" Leopold yelled angrily.

"I know." Rowan sighed. "I still live with that fact. If I could sleep, I wouldn't be able to. Alas, immortality has pushed me beyond the need for such trivial things."

"Stop acting so calm. I'm here to kill you!" Leopold yelled.

"Can we at least do this in a better setting?" Rowan asked. "Like a field? I don't like fighting on the palace grounds."

"Fine." Leopold agreed reluctantly.

"Follow me Leopold." Rowan said, conjuring angel wings on his back.

"Don't you dare pretend that you are an angel, scum." Leopold chided, making note of Rowan's angel wings.

"Ah, my Hero of Light. You don't seem to understand." Rowan smiled, almost taunting Leopold. "I'm not pretending to be an angel. This is just what it looks like to have wings when filled with divine power."

"Plus, you'll hate to see me." You laughed, transforming into the Angel of Death. You were right as you could almost feel Leopold's disgust. Leopold created his wings of light, and you all flew off to a field somewhere.

At the field in a location that is really not important, the four of you landed. Rowan and you were on one side, and Gabriel and Leopold were on the other. "Leopold." Rowan started. "I know about your sword too. It only hurts what it deems a threat. Try to hit me with it." Leopold took the bait and rushed towards Rowan blindingly fast. When he reached his destination, he swung. Rowan held his hand up and casually blocked the sword. It did no damage to Rowan.

"How?" Leopold cried. "Why did it not do anything?"

"Let me explain." Rowan started. "You sword believes that I am not a threat. Not because I am weak, but because I am not truly evil. If you truly want to defeat me, you will need to get much stronger, and find a way to overcome that issue."

"Then if your not a threat, why does my sword feel a threatening presence?" Leopold asked, inquiring about the pitch black stone in the center.

"Hello? Forgot about me?" You asked, pointing out that you were in your Angel of Death form.

"There is still so much you need to learn, Leopold." Rowan smiled. "When you are ready, we will have a real fight. If I wanted to, I could erase both you and your angel friend out of existence. But, I don't want to. Fight me when you are ready. Go back to Brus, and get stronger, or give up trying. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some bread to bake." Rowan turned his back towards the disgruntled Leopold and flew off, you alongside.

"Why didn't you kill him?" You asked your Master.

"Because that would just add fuel to the evil fire." Rowan smiled. "Besides, nothing is more thrilling than winning a challenging fight. He doesn't understand the extent of our power, nor will he ever achieve equality between us. Our power is constantly growing. He will have to undergo some serious training to achieve our current level, and by the time he does, we will be even stronger."

"When you put it like that, it sounds like you just want to be challenged by something." You smiled.

"Well, baking has proven to be quite a challenge." Rowan laughed.

"Challenged by someone!" You clarified. "We still have an hour left before the bread is finished rising anyway. Let's hope it comes out nicely."

"Let's indeed." Rowan smiled as you continued flying towards the castle, completely ignoring the hero you left in the dust.
