The Arcade

An adventure game

added 6 years ago O

The game showed a pixelated, detailed background of a typical adventurous landscape you'd see on any adventure game. In the far background it showed a big castle, with flags waving in just two animations, while a little more in front some farm houses filled the meadows in the front. Both parts of the background were being split apart by some random forest. What it also showed was a small picture of what was supposed to look like a map you'd play in. It had to be a game where you could move around freely, comparable to Zelda. "That's at least something different than a game like Pac-man or Super mario." Andrew muttered while looking at the screen. The game didn't look attractive, cliché even, at first sight, but Andrew still decided he could give it a try anyway. After inserting a bunch of coins, Andrew clicked on the "continue"-button. As the game advanced to a further stage, it brought Andrew to a big surprise...

The second stage was character customization. Now that wasn't as special, but what surprised Andrew was how the pixelated design of the game's main menu had completely disappeared, showing a much more detailed representation of the game, probably almost to the point that it could compete against the most modern games!

At the character customization, Andrew was allowed to choose between a few classes, but to his disappointment a few of them were locked. The first choice, a knight as character, was somehow locked as well. It was kind of strange, since a knight or warrior was usually referred as the most basic class to start an adventure with. With the knight character, some more classes were locked, making him wonder the same thing as he did with the knight. "Why would the archer be locked?" Andrew asked, to nobody in particular.

Searching through the different characters, there were still a few options left, but most of them didn't make sense. A certain class still being open was that of a centaur. The character attracted Andrew because of its attributes ingame. The info box about the centaur said that the character could reach its destination further than most of the other beings in the game, with that the strength of the creature was outstanding, just like its figure, as it stood out a few feet above for example the previously named knight or elf. Even though a lot of characters were locked in the game, to his disappointment, the arcade game did allow Andrew to change the centaurs appearance.

The character now showed a tall male centaur with messy brownish hair, standing tall above the comparison of a human knight in the game. Just for the fun, Andrew changed the gender of the creature -he at least wanted to make the game appealing, also for if he were to play a second time-, and darkened the hair colour of the girl on top of the horse's body, also changing the style into curls. With that the tail of the lower body also changed into the same colour, but the rest stayed the same. The game smartly censored the things that shouldn't be shown in it, as the busty chest was already covered a small, somewhat old piece of cloth, while the privates were covered by the tail of the centaur.

Not knowing what more to expect from a centaur, Andrew was left satisfied with his creation and clicked on save. The screen now showed the mythical creature on a landscape, with another "continue"-button on the bottom right side of the screen, thus he clicked it. He didn't expect anything else to happen, but as the game loaded, the screen got brighter and brighter, surrounding him with it, until everything suddenly went dark...
